For our Locksmith Ledger Trusted Tools Review, we are installing the Schlage Performance Series cylindrical lever lock. This is part one of a three-part series on the Schlage Performance Series. The PC Series™ lock is a purpose-built grade 1 lock designed for commercial real estate, retail, and multifamily building types offering 8 functional options, 8 lever designs and 6 finishes. Three models are included: the PM Series™ Grade 1 Mortise Lock, PC Series™ Grade 1 Cylindrical Lock and PT Series Grade 2 Tubular Lock.

PC Series cylindrical lever lock features include:

In this installation, the PC Series replaces a residential-grade knob that was not ADA-compliant or fire rated.

The Schlage PC Series lever comes laid out very nicely in the box, which also includes a QR code to scan for full instructions.  You’ll notice there’s no screw packet. The screws are pre- installed in all of the parts, pre-assembled from the factory. This installation starts with installing the latch and tightening the pre-installed latch screws. You simply apply them to the door.

Next, the chassis of the lock will slip right over the latch, as shown in photo xx. It is easily inserted into the door and aligned with the latch. In order to lock the lock together, we will attach the internal portion of the lock. Again, you’ll notice the screws are already placed and the yellow Loctite is already applied to the screws so they stay nice and tight. These screws hold the lock together; they are designed to stay tight and in place for a long time to ensure optimal function.

Then we will locate the little dimples on the escutcheon or the rose of the lock, and they will integrate directly with little dimples that are on the internal portion of the lock. They will rotate slightly and lock into place.

After the internal lever gets slid on, the lock has been completely installed. We also replaced an older, rusty strike plate, installing a new one on the frame side. Black plastic holds the supplied screws directly in place; there’s absolutely no confusion about what screws go where with this unique and user-friendly design from Schlage.

After testing the function with the key on both sides, the job is complete.
