What’s New in Automotive for 2026?

Carmakers introducing new and newly redesigned models

As 2025 draws to an end, many 2026 cars are already on the dealer floor and on the road, and the trend is certainly towards hybrid/electric models and keyless entry. Buyers are hard pressed to find new cars that actually use keys to start; only a very few base trim models of the least expensive cars have keyed ignitions.

 

Auto Shows

Auto shows are a great place to get your hands on new models and new technologies, and locksmiths usually can be found looking at the locking systems.

  • The Los Angeles Auto Show is scheduled Nov. 21-30 at the Los Angeles Convention Center
  • The Detroit Auto Show is scheduled Jan. 14-15, 2026 at Huntington Place.
  • The 2026 Chicago Auto Show is scheduled Feb. 7-16 at McCormick Place.
  • The 2026 New York International Auto Show is scheduled April 3-12 at the Javits Center.

 

2026 Model Introductions

Here is a roundup of some of the newer cars and SUVs.

2026 Audi Q3: Sharper styling, more space, power bump (≈255 hp, 273 lb-ft), new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission replacing the old 8-speed. Arrives early 2026.

2026 Audi A6: Swapped out four-cylinders for a standard 3.0-L turbo V6 (~362 hp). New chassis upgrades and design tweaks.

Hyundai Ioniq 9: Large EV flagship from Hyundai’s Ioniq brand. Multiple drivetrain options (RWD, AWD, “Performance”). Big battery (~110.3 kWh), high range.

From Hyundai: The 2026 IONIQ 9 is billed as Hyundai’s most advanced electric SUV yet, blending bold design, reassuring power and range, cutting-edge convenience features, and elevated comfort. As the brand’s first three-row EV, it delivers a spacious, premium experience for families seeking innovation and versatility in a refined package. Security features include Digital Key 2.0 Premium with smartphone and smartwatch integration.

2026 Hyundai Palisade: Billed by Hyundai as an all-new generation, Bigger, more upscale inside, more capability. Two powertrains: a naturally-aspirated V6, and a hybrid 2.5L I4 + electric.

In addition, Hyundai plans to introduce its 2026 Hyundai NEXO Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle at the LA Auto Show in November. 

2026 Nissan Sentra: Redesigned exterior, improved aerodynamics, more rigidity. Minor dimensional tweaks. Available Nissan Intelligent Key® with approach unlock/walkaway locking (standard, SR and SL; optional, SV) automatically detects the key fob, unlocking the doors without the driver ever having to reach in their pocket or purse. After reaching a destination, Sentra automatically locks as the driver walks away. Also new for Sentra is the myQ Universal Garage Door Opener, allowing drivers to open, close and check the status of their compatible garage door. 

Redesigned 2026 Nissan Leaf: Transformed from hatchback to more of a crossover-style EV, significant range improvements, newer battery tech, updated design and features

Cadillac V Series: The 2026 OPTIQ-V joins Cadillac’s fifth generation of the V-Series portfolio, once again elevating the brand’s performance offerings. OPTIQ-V infiltrates the V-Series brand with a youthful and vibrant persona, sporty luxury design, and performance-driven power.

Cadillar Vistiq: Full EV with about 300 miles of range, using GM Ultium platform, positioned between Cadillac’s Lyriq and Escalade IQ.

Rivian R2: Two-row SUV, intended as a more affordable Rivian. Expected to start around  $45,000.

Toyota RAV4 (2026 – 6th generation): Redesigned; fully electrified lineup (hybrid / plug-in hybrid / etc

Subaru Uncharted: EV subcompact with over 300-mile range in base trims, two powertrain options (a dual-motor AWD and a single-motor FWD) aimed for early 2026.

From Subaru: The all-new, all-electric compact crossover is the latest addition to Subaru's growing electric vehicle lineup. It offers buyers a small, sporty CUV with up to 338 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of less than 5 seconds, fast charging from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard on most models, and an available manufacturer-estimated range of more than 300 miles on a single charge.
