Camden Door Controls’ 30th Anniversary

Mississauga, Ontario -- Camden Door Controls, a premier provider of door activation and locking devices, celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2018. The company is marking the milestone by unveiling a bold new rebranding look, spanning a new logo, web site and design of its product guides and other collaterals. Camden is also commemorating its 30 years of success with the introduction of a new range of industry leading products, and a continued commitment to lead the way in providing first choice door locking, activation and access control solutions.

The website redesign incorporates the latest technology and features. It houses a new range of support documentation, including product reference guides, and graphic based document libraries with product spec sheets, manuals, guides, certificates and images, and increased ‘media rich’ information, including product videos.

Launching in 1988 with a vision to manufacture best-in-class door activation devices, including key switches and push/exit buttons, Camden today offers more switch models than any of its competitors combined, and leads the market with exclusive touchless switch and wireless technology. Camden's product suite spans door controllers, locking products, including a new range of electric strikes, and advanced IP telephone entry and access control panels. Beyond devices, Camden is now expanding its technical services to package its exclusive products in turn-key system/project solutions.

"Camden continues to design and manufacture virtually all of the products that carry our name," notes Dave Malen, Camden's founder and chief executive officer. "We will always offer the responsiveness and high level of customer service that is only possible from a privately-owned and independent manufacturer. On behalf of everyone at Camden, we thank our customers for their loyal patronage and look forward to continuing our pledge to excellence for another 30 years and beyond."

New Anixter 'Smart' Distribution Center

GLENVIEW, Ill. — Anixter Inc. is expanding the footprint of its North American flagship distribution Center in Alsip, Illinois, with the addition of a 238,000-sq.-ft. facility, equipped with an intelligent conveyor system and voice picking technology, making it Anixter’s largest—and smartest—distribution center. With 30 to 40 percent more storage capacity and new automation technology, Alsip is expected to speed up shipments significantly to customers.

“The new facility will significantly decrease our processing time,” said Orlando McGee, Executive Vice President of Global Operations. “The technology and design of this facility will enable us to move orders into the shipping network faster.  Ultimately, that nets out to better service overall to our customers.” McGee estimates that Anixter will see total productivity savings of 15-25 percent.

The facility is LEED-certified, and the new motion-activated LED lighting system is estimated to be 40 percent more energy-efficient than a standard lighting system.

Additionally, the 5,500-ft. smart conveyor system, which runs only when objects are placed on it, is estimated to be 35 percent more efficient than a belt-driven system and is designed for worker safety and ease of use. “The conveyor will be positioned at the right height so that product can be pushed directly onto the conveyor without lifting, reducing injuries,” commented McGee.

With Bluetooth headsets and Android devices directing them to their next pick, employees will also have their hands and eyes free, and be able to confirm vocally in their preferred language. The new voice picking technology is expected to improve efficiency and accuracy as well as worker safety.

According to Anixter CEO, Bob Eck, the new Alsip facility embodies the smart building approach that Anixter champions in the marketplace. “We excel at assisting customers  in laying the groundwork for smart buildings—from structured cabling to automation and  lighting systems—to improve safety, productivity, space utilization and efficiency. We’ve applied our own smart building principles to Alsip, and this new facility demonstrates the quantifiable business value of the smart building approach.”

Anixter’s expanded distribution center in Alsip, Illinois, is expected to open in mid-April of this year.

Medeco BILT Mobile App
Salem, Va.  - Medeco Security Locks, a division of ASSA ABLOY N.A., has made “intelligent” installation instructions for many of its cylinder and deadbolt products available on the BILT mobile app. The fully-interactive, voice narrated step-by-step guides simplify installation and shorten the time it takes to accomplish the job.

“We've simplified retrofit cylinder installation to a whole new level with the BILT app,” said Joseph Kingma, Medeco general manager and vice president, ASSA ABLOY high security group special projects. “Now we can guide an installer through a trouble-free installation, plus explain what hardware and tools are needed for each step. The BILT app lets you zoom in, zoom out or rotate the image to see the installation from all angles.  We've eliminated a lot of the guess-work that’s common with paper instructions, and that can be a real time saver for installers.”

The BILT app is especially helpful for one-time and first-time installations, but even veteran installers will use the app as a refresher before heading to the job site.

“Using BILT greatly enhances the speed and efficiency of installing Medeco products,” added Kingma. “This ultimately results in fewer operating problems with the opening and fewer callbacks.”

The BILT app is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play, or visit Medeco’s website,, for direct links. BILT provides seamless updates if a product changes or if installation instructions are updated. The result is an always-up-to-date set of instructions and warranty that continually reflect the current product.

BILT features installation instructions for the following Medeco products:

  • M3 CLIQ Key In Knob (KIL)
  • M3 CLIQ Protector II Padlock
  • Maxum Deadbolt
  • X4 CLIQ Rim Cylinder
  • XT Mortise Cylinder
  • XT Small Format Interchangeable Core (SFIC)
