Squire Vulcan Combination Padlocks Give Locksmiths a Stronger Option for Critical Infrastructure
St. Louis – Squire Locks USA is introducing its Vulcan resettable combination locks to the North American locksmith and security hardware market, giving locksmiths a new opportunity to serve customers across energy, utilities, transportation, and other critical infrastructure, where locks must stand up to daily handling and harsh outdoor conditions.
The Vulcan range fills an important gap in the padlock market. Many customers appreciate the convenience of a resettable combination lock but have traditionally had to rely on lightweight products designed primarily for consumer and general retail applications. Vulcan offers a more substantial, professional-grade alternative for applications where durability, weather resistance, and dependable daily operation matter.
Unlike common retail locks, the Vulcan range is sold exclusively through professional security hardware distributors, giving locksmiths access to a differentiated product they can specify and sell without competing directly against retail shelves or online commodity pricing.
“Locksmiths regularly encounter customers who want to eliminate keys but are dissatisfied with the construction and service life of ordinary, retail-grade resettable locks,” said Jerry Burhans, North American Commercial Leader for Squire. “Vulcan gives them a much stronger option they can confidently recommend for these infrastructure-related applications.”
Vulcan padlocks feature hardened boron steel shackles that Squire reports are 80 percent tougher than conventional hardened steel shackles. The locks also incorporate an armored body, fully recodable combination wheels, and convenient push-button opening. The larger Vulcan models are available with four or five wheels, providing either 10,000 or 100,000 possible combinations.
A distinctive front-facing dial arrangement makes the combination easier to see and operate than traditional bottom-dial designs. Workers can look directly at the painted numbers and turn the wheels without crouching, squinting, or awkwardly reaching beneath the lock. This is particularly useful at remote sites and outdoor installations, including situations where technicians may be wearing work gloves.
The Vulcan range includes 40mm, 50mm and 60mm body sizes, with standard open-shackle, long-shackle, and closed-shackle configurations available. This gives locksmiths the flexibility to address applications ranging from meter boxes and remote equipment enclosures to gates, cabinets, pump jacks, transportation assets, and energy installations.
The Vulcan Combi 50 is especially well suited to the North American market. Its four-wheel, fully resettable mechanism provides 10,000 possible combinations, while the weather-resistant protective cover, hardened boron steel shackle, and choice of standard, 2.5-inch long-shackle or closed-shackle formats make it adaptable to a wide variety of field applications. It is backed by Squire’s 10-year manufacturer guarantee.
For locksmiths, Vulcan creates an accessible entry point into the expanding critical infrastructure and industrial security market. Rather than competing with mass-market combination locks on price alone, locksmiths can offer customers a more durable, application-focused solution supported by professional product selection, distributor support and security expertise.
