Squire KeyKeep: A Practical Physical-Key Solution for Property Access

Four-model mechanical key-safe lineup supports rental operations, maintenance access and backup-entry plans without batteries, apps or connectivity.

St. Louis –An electronic entry code will not work. A cleaner is waiting outside or a  maintenance contractor needs access for an urgent repair. For property professionals, an access problem can quickly become a scramble of phone calls, troubleshooting and an unplanned trip.

Squire North America is highlighting its KeyKeep mechanical key-safe lineup as a practical option for locksmiths helping customers manage authorized physical-key access. The four-model range offers wall-mounted and portable configurations for property managers, landlords, rental operators, residential brokerage teams and homeowners.

At properties with physical-key entry, a designated backup key can provide another way inside when the normal electronic access method is unavailable. KeyKeep’s mechanical combination operation requires no batteries, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth pairing, mobile app or subscription to open the safe.

“Locksmiths understand that the access plan has to work beyond the initial installation,” said Jerry Burhans, Commercial Sector Director for Squire North America. “Customers need to know where the backup key is, who can retrieve it and how access will be managed. KeyKeep gives locksmiths a straightforward product to support that conversation.”

The KeyKeep range combines durable die-cast construction, weather-resistant covers and locally recodable combination mechanisms, with a published 10-year guarantee.

Four models for different access requirements

The KeyKeep 1 is a wall-mounted key safe with a four-wheel recodable mechanism and 10,000 possible combinations. The KeyKeep 1PB provides the same combination format in a portable configuration with a shackle for attachment at approved locations.

The KeyKeep 2 is a wall-mounted key safe featuring a 12-button recodable mechanism, 4,000 possible combinations and an automatic reset feature. The portable KeyKeep 2PB offers the same push-button features with a lockable shackle.

Wall-mounted models establish a consistent key-storage location for ongoing use. Portable models offer flexibility where the approved storage location needs to change.

A product and service opportunity for locksmiths

KeyKeep gives locksmiths an additional option for customers coordinating cleaner and contractor visits, vacant-property inspections, maintenance calls and physical-key backup arrangements.

Professional selection should account for the actual keys being stored, mounting surface, attachment point, weather exposure and frequency of use. Locksmiths can help customers select an appropriate model, follow installation instructions and establish a workable code-change and key-return process.

“For customers comparing key safes, the conversation should extend beyond the purchase price,” Burhans added. “Construction, weather protection, mounting and recoding all matter. Squire brings more than two centuries of lock-making experience to a product category that plays an everyday role in property operations.”

Managers can change combinations locally as employees, vendors and access requirements change. Each installation should have a designated person responsible for limiting code distribution, changing the combinations when authorization ends and verifying that keys are returned.

KeyKeep can also complement electronic entry systems where the door hardware permits physical-key access. Customers requiring remote credential revocation, scheduled access or automated activity records should select systems that provide those capabilities.
