STRATTEC Expands its Remotes Lineup

Aug. 3, 2020
Aftermarket remote keyless entry fobs and remote headed keys now include models from Honda, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota.

STRATTEC Security Corp., formerly a division of Briggs & Stratton, has a heritage that goes back nearly 100 years to the early days of the automobile. Since then, the company has become the world’s largest producer of original equipment (OE) automotive locks and keys, while providing full-service aftermarket support.

STRATTEC designs, develops, manufactures and markets mechanical locks, electromechanical locks, latches and related security and access control products for global automotive manufacturers. It also supplies products for the heavy-truck and recreational-vehicle markets, as well as makes precision die castings.

STRATTEC’s long-term success is the result of its dedication to serving customers while continuously improving its processes and product quality. Today, STRATTEC approaches business on a global basis, establishing strategic partnerships around the world.

Over the past several years, vehicle access systems have evolved from purely mechanical components that were the industry standard for decades to integrated electromechanical systems, which are becoming more prevalent with each passing year. In keeping with the trend, STRATTEC for 2020 has an expanded line of remote keyless entry (RKE) fobs and remote headed keys (RHK).

Long an OE provider of RKE fobs and RHKs for Ford and General Motors vehicles, STRATTEC added an extensive line of RKE fobs and RHKs for Honda-, Nissan-, Subaru- and Toyota-made vehicles — 36 remote models in all. As with its OE keys, STRATTEC is eager to continue to support the locksmith markets by providing quality products and the right information about those products, so locksmiths can make an informed decision.

To see all of the applications for all of STRATTEC’s new lines of RKE fobs and RHKs, go to http://aftermarket.strattec.com. A comprehensive guide can be accessed under the tab “What’s New” and then “new products.” The guide is titled “Remote Keyless Entry, Remote Head Keys and Proximity Remotes.” This PDF document can be printed, and you can search it as well. It provides a quick listing of all major brands of STRATTEC keys and fobs, including the newly added Honda, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota models.

The brochure lists valuable information besides models covered by each remote, including OE part numbers as a reference guide. Another feature: information on whether the specific model has onboard programming (OBP) capability. For a locksmith just breaking into the automotive side of the business, this is important information, because vehicles that can use OBP-capable remotes don’t require an expensive programming tool. So, a locksmith can perform automotive work without necessarily having to invest heavily right away.

All RKE fobs and RHKs are approved by the Federal Communications Commission and are brand new. That’s worth noting again: These aren’t refurbished products, but they carry pricing that’s comparable with refurbished products.

Honda

STRATTEC’s Honda line has nine different RKE fobs and RHKs, which cover Acura as well as Honda brand models. The coverage of manufacturer’s models is extensive, and model years covered are 2001–2017. STRATTEC estimates that its aftermarket remotes will cover more than 19 million Honda and Acura vehicles on the road. Some of the popular Honda models covered include the Accord, Civic, CR-V, Fit and Odyssey. As for Acura vehicles, covered models include the RDX and MDX.

Of STRATTEC’s nine RKE fobs and RHKs, five can be programmed through some form of onboard method. (The other four require a programming tool through the OBD port of the vehicle.) OBP-capable models are the 5938187, 5938189 and 5938194 among three-button remotes; and the 5938188 and 5938195 among four-button models.

Nissan

The Nissan line has five different RKE fobs and RHKs, which cover Infiniti and Nissan models. The vehicle coverage is extensive, and the model years covered are 2002–2017. The number of vehicles on the road that are covered by STRATTEC’s remotes is estimated to be more than 20 million. Popular Nissan models serviced include the Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue and Xterra. Popular Infiniti models covered are the FX35, FX45, G35 and QX56.

Of the five Nissan RKE fobs and RHKs, four have OBP capability: the 5931636 and 5938185 three-button models and the 5931642 and 5938186 four-button models.

Subaru

In the Subaru line, STRATTEC has two different RKE fobs, a two-button model (5931644) and a four-button model (5931637) — both of which have OBP capability. STRATTEC’s estimated coverage is for about 2 million vehicles on the road, and the model years covered are 1999–2007. Models include the Forester, Impreza, Legacy and Outback.

Toyota

STRATTEC has 20 different RKE fobs and RHKs for Toyota vehicles. The vehicle coverage is extensive, and model years 1999–2017 are covered. It’s estimated that STRATTEC’s coverage of Toyota vehicles on the road is more than 17 million. Many of Toyota’s popular models are covered, including the Camry, Corolla, Avalon, RAV4, Tundra, Prius and Sienna.

Ten of the 20 RKE fobs and RHKs have OBP capability. OBP models are: 5931638, 5931640 and 5938196 among three-button remotes; 5931639, 5931641, 5938207, 5938209 and 5938213 among four-button remotes; the five-button 5938212; and the six-button 5938211.
