ALOA 5-Day Fundamentals of Automotive Locksmithing

In this new in-person class, locksmiths learn the fundamentals of automotive locksmithing and kickstart their careers under the guidance of experienced instructors. The course is 50% classroom instruction and 50% hands-on training.
Course description: This 5-day Fundamentals of Automotive Locksmithing (FOAL) course is designed as an introductory course for those wanting to get started in the automotive side of the industry. The course is primarily focused on vehicles 2000 and newer, with education on key origination methods for various systems to produce working keys without relying on key codes. Common problems along with their repair techniques and troubleshooting will be taught as well, with an introduction to key cutting machines and key programming devices. The class also includes a section on ethics as an automotive locksmith.
Participants will receive a Certificate of Training acknowledging 40 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) of the Fundamentals of Automotive Locksmithing upon successful completion of the course. Note: This certificate documents training hours only. It is not a certification and does not replace any state or local licensing requirements.

American Key Supply Hands-On Lishi Training
American Key Supply is offering hands-on Lishi training April 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. at AKS headquarters in Las Vegas.
Course description: Learn and really understand the tools and procedures that will help you pick and decode both automotive and residential locks. The class will begin with approximately an hour of classroom learning, understanding the basics of the tools and the locks that you will see in the field. We then jump into the hands-on portion of the class where you will be able to pick and decode as many locks as possible. Feel free to focus your attention and get help on a difficult lock that always seems to gives you trouble.
Yes, we will cover residential Lishi tools also, as well as the new Kwikset SmartKey Decoder by LockTech.
These tools are on your vans to make you money and we will teach you how to get the most out of them.

Southern Lock 2026 Trade Show & Learning Expo
Join Southern Lock in St. Petersburg, Florida May 6-9 for three days of training, 28 hands-on training courses, networking, a trade show, and special dinner banquet to celebrate their 80th year of business!
Classes meet March 6-8, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Hyatt Place St. Petersburg Downtown. The trade show is March 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Petersburg Coliseum. Manufacturer-led sessions are offered on a wide variety of locks and door hardware.

Fundamentals of Automotive Diagnostics, offered by Southern Locksmithing Institute. Instructor Scott Childress CAL, CFL
Designed for beginner to intermediate automotive locksmiths, this course introduces the fundamentals of modern automotive electronic and immobilizer systems and the diagnostic processes used in today’s vehicles. Through visual demonstrations and real-world examples, participants will learn how to approach diagnostics methodically, use common diagnostic tools and flow charts, interpret data, and communicate findings effectively. This course builds a strong diagnostic foundation to support troubleshooting, key programming, and locksmith services on vehicles with increasingly complex electronic systems.

Journey Through Automotive Keys, offered by Southern Locksmithing Institute. Instructor David Doehling.
This course provides a comprehensive review of automotive key types from early model years through current vehicle applications. Designed specifically for locksmiths, the class will cover how to identify interchangeable and substitute automotive keys that offer more cost-effective alternatives while maintaining proper vehicle coverage. Participants will also learn practical strategies for condensing automotive key inventory by building keys as needed rather than stocking every individual key variation. By the end of the course, attendees will have the knowledge to maintain full automotive key coverage while reducing inventory size, cost, and complexity.

This hands-on workshop is built for experienced locksmiths working with Volkswagen & Audi immobilizer and key programming systems. Participants will actively work through real-world VW programming scenarios using industry tools and OE software, from the very basics all the way to ODIS dealer software. The course focuses on practical troubleshooting, correct tool selection, and proven programming methods, giving attendees the confidence to successfully complete complex VW & Audi jobs in the field.
Mastering BMW Programming with ACDP, offered by Southern Locksmithing Institute. Instructor Matt Laketa
This advanced, hands-on course is designed for intermediate to experienced automotive locksmiths working with BMW immobilizer and key programming systems. Participants will learn core EEPROM techniques, proper soldering and handling protocols, and real-world workflows using ACDP equipment. Additional tools covered include Abrites, VVDI2, Autohex, and more—giving students the confidence to tackle complex BMW jobs with ease.

Mastering Honda High-Security Locks, offered by Southern Locksmithing Institute. Instructors Jennifer Richards & Dan Florko
This course provides an in-depth overview of Honda’s high-security locking systems and their construction, including key cutting and tumbler configuration. Instruction will focus on the proper removal and repair of vehicle lock cylinders through a combination of classroom discussion and hands-on training. Participants will work with door, trunk, and ignition cylinders from Honda vehicles manufactured from 2003 through current keyed models. Upon completion, students will have the practical knowledge and confidence needed to service these vehicles effectively in their day-to-day operations.

BRING YOUR LAPTOP to install OEM software in class! This course is designed to remove the confusion and barriers surrounding today’s secure automotive service requirements. Many modern vehicle functions—such as key programming, immobilizer resets, and security code access—require proper credentials through the National Automotive Security Task Force (NASTF) Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) Registry. In this course, ALOA-certified instructor Jeremy Crocker clearly explains the NASTF registration process, what’s required, and how to stay compliant. The class also provides a practical overview of factory OE software, including how it’s accessed and used in real-world automotive locksmith applications.
