Sad news: Locksmith, Deputy Killed During Eviction
Last week, we read that an unidentified Vero Beach, Florida, locksmith was shot while performing an eviction. A law enforcement officer was also killed. Sadly it is now reported that locksmith David Long, 76, has passed away.
According to the Indian County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened at 8:42 a.m. Nov. 21. A parent was evicting an adult child from the home, so in addition to the dangers often posed at evictions, it could also be termed a domestic disturbance. Two law enforcement officials were on site with the locksmith, and the accused shooter was also killed when law enforcement returned fire.

Be careful out there! This tragedy occurred in broad daylight and the locksmith was with two deputies. It was the second such fatal shooting of a locksmith on the job in 2025. In July 2025, locksmith Randy Stewart was shot and killed while responding to a service call in Oak Island, North Carolina. In that case, the homeowner was arrested and charged with murder.
