ABLOY BEAT Transitions to ABLOY CUMULUS Cloud Platform
Plano, Texas – ALCEA, an ASSA ABLOY company and global provider of integrated security solutions for critical infrastructure, announced the ABLOY solution previously known as ABLOY BEAT will now operate as ABLOY CUMULUS on an upgraded cloud platform.
ABLOY CUMULUS addresses the growing complexity of securing distributed assets across industries including oil & gas, energy, telecom, and transportation. The platform delivers centralized access control across geographically dispersed sites, with real-time audit trails that provide accountability for every access event. Open REST APIs enable seamless integration with existing systems, while a mobile-first design supports field technicians and contractors in the moment. The architecture scales from initial pilot deployments to enterprise-wide rollouts without re-platforming.
“ABLOY CUMULUS is more than a rebrand. It’s a signal of where the market is going,” said Jeff Slaughter, Head of Business Development at ALCEA. “Critical infrastructure operators are moving beyond standalone devices. They need connected, intelligent systems that deliver visibility, control, and accountability at scale. CUMULUS is built to meet that need.”
When launched as ABLOY BEAT, the solution introduced a new model for secure access, eliminating traditional keys in favor of mobile-enabled credentials and Bluetooth-enabled padlocks. Designed for harsh environments, the IP68-rated device, hardened steel construction, and intuitive LED status indicators quickly made it a solution across sectors such as transportation, utilities, and energy.
But customer needs have evolved.
“What started as a highly secure keyless padlock has grown into something much more powerful,” Slaughter added. “Our customers are managing thousands of remote access points, such as well pads, substations, cabinets, and network infrastructure. They don’t just need access. They need control, auditability, and integration across their entire operation.”
“Every access point in critical infrastructure represents both operational necessity and potential risk,” said Slaughter. “CUMULUS gives operators a cost-effective way to secure thousands of locations while maintaining full visibility and control. That’s a game changer for industries where uptime, safety, and compliance are non-negotiable.”
ABLOY CUMULUS draws directly from cloud architecture, symbolizing connectivity, scalability, and continuous evolution. It reflects a shift from isolated hardware to a connected, intelligent ecosystem where access, data, and control converge. It signals ALCEA’s broader strategy: moving beyond point solutions to deliver integrated access management platforms that provide visibility, accountability, and control across complex, distributed infrastructure environments.

Kwikset UNITE, ButterflyMX Integration
LAKE FOREST, Calif. –Kwikset, an ASSA ABLOY Group Company, announced an integration of its UNITE electronic multifamily locks with the ButterflyMX cloud-based property access and security platform for multifamily, student housing, commercial and gated communities. The integration enables residents to unlock their unit doors and access property entry points directly from the ButterflyMX mobile app without managed Wi-Fi networks or connectivity hubs.
The solution pairs Kwikset UNITE Bluetooth and RFID-enabled electronic locks with the ButterflyMX Access Control & Security Platform, creating a keyless experience across multifamily properties while simplifying infrastructure requirements for property owners and operators.
With the integration, residents can use the ButterflyMX Mobile App to unlock their apartment door equipped with a Kwikset UNITE lock, as well as building entrances, gates and amenity spaces, all from a single app interface. By consolidating building and unit access into one platform, the solution eliminates the need for multiple apps, or multiple credentials and delivers a consistent access experience across the entire property.
Property managers can manage access to Kwikset UNITE locks directly within the ButterflyMX Operating System. No additional software platforms, Wi-Fi infrastructure or third-party hubs are required. This streamlined management experience simplifies onboarding, credential updates and resident turnover while helping reduce installation complexity and long-term maintenance costs.
Kwikset UNITE locks use built-in Bluetooth and RFID credential readers to enable secure offline access. Residents can unlock doors using the ButterflyMX Mobile App via Bluetooth or with smart fobs and cards, ensuring reliable performance even without Wi-Fi connectivity. The integration supports both mobile credentials and physical credentials, providing flexibility for residents and staff.
“UNITE was developed to address the evolving needs of multifamily property managers and residents,” said David Fernandez, product lead of multifamily EAC at Kwikset. “By integrating with ButterflyMX, we are delivering a property-wide access experience that simplifies operations, reduces infrastructure requirements and enhances convenience for residents.”
The integration builds on Kwikset’s 2024 launch of UNITE, the company’s first electronic access control solution designed specifically for the multifamily market. UNITE introduced a cloud-based ecosystem featuring a web portal and mobile capabilities tailored to property managers, owners and residents. With this integration, multifamily operators can offer a fully keyless resident experience, consolidate property and unit access within a single mobile app and manage credentials through one operating system, all while reducing installation and maintenance costs by eliminating Wi-Fi networks and connectivity hubs.
“Residents and property managers expect a seamless access experience that works across every door on a property,” said Emily Kubec, product lead for platform and smart locks at ButterflyMX. “Integrating Kwikset UNITE locks into the ButterflyMX platform means residents get one app for everything, from the front gate to their unit door, and property teams get a single system to manage it all, with no added complexity.”
The integration is designed for Class A high-rise urban communities, Class B garden-style suburban properties, student housing and mixed-use developments seeking streamlined, scalable access control solutions for both new construction and retrofit projects.
The Kwikset UNITE and ButterflyMX integration will be available through professional channel distributors and dealers.
