Apple Maps Won’t Allow Locksmiths to Advertise
In its upcoming Maps advertising rollout, Apple has announced advertising policies that ban ads from categories termed “home services,” which includes locksmiths as well as plumbers, electricians and HVAC technicians. Additional banned categories include bail bonding services and cryptocurrency ATMs.
In contrast, those categories comprise some of the largest local advertisements on Google Maps, though the Google business verification process can be tedious and difficult for legitimate locksmiths and exploited by potential scammers.
Apple has also said it will only show a single ad to users in its Map search results, clearly marked with a small blue halo around the pin and labeled as an ad in the list of suggested places.
The most recent launch date announced for Apple Map ads is summer 2026, though the release has been pushed back several times.
