Healthcare Security was our cover focus for October 2015. Allan Colombo’s article, “Cabinet Locks Go High Tech,” looked at specialized cabinet locks to secure confidential patient records and pharmaceuticals. Allegion’s Minu Youngkin outlined the “Unique Regulations, Restrictions and Challenges of Hospital Integration.” ASSA ABLOY wrote about “Opening the Door to Safe and Secure Healthcare,” explaining how a hospital's doors, locks, hinges and hardware can be optimally combined to result in a safe and secure facility. Jerry Levine covered the installation of ligature-prevention hardware on a restroom door. Tim O’Leary wrote about adding specialized timers, enabling doors to be opened with a remote button. He also reported in the expanding market for video surveillance, back before everything moved to the cloud. Johnson restored a Keil deadbolt dating back to 1917. Johnson’s “Electric Strike Review” looked at the newest models and features. Pro-Lok’s Adam Duberstein wrote about proper mortise lock installations and the tools that make the job go smoothly. Bullseye S.D. Locks was profiled as a source for safe deposit locks.

Servicing Assa Twin series lock cylinders was the topic of an article by Jerry Levine. Rod Oden looked at life safety issues connected with building exit doors. Gale Johnson reported on high security interchangeable core (IC) lock cylinders which were newly introduced by Scorpion Locks. Medeco introduced their Key Wizard key management V4.5 software. The National Average Price Survey found an hourly rate of $51. Levine assisted with the installation of Sargent T-Zone lock using a Don-Jo remodeler plate. Tom Gillespie installed a Z*LOKK gate lock by D&D. Levine reported on the Hit-42FB8 installation jig by Major Mfg. Tim O’Leary checked on Von Duprin exit device trim. O’Leary also suggested ways to troubleshoot electronic access control systems. Jeff Trepanier programmed transponder systems on a Pontiac G6 and an Acura TL.
