The Oldest Locksmith Shop?

Could you tell me who is the oldest lock and key shop in the U.S.A., not including hardware stores. Thank you.

John Maurer

Locksmith Ledger printed an article in September, 1984, page 67 which stated that Boston Lock & Safe was the oldest locksmith business in the United States.

According to Boston Lock & Safe’s website, www.bostonlockandsafe.com, “Established in 1790, we're the oldest operating locksmith and safe dealer in Boston, Massachusetts and the surrounding areas.”

Coming Soon: 2019 Security Register

The Locksmith Ledger staff is hard at work on the 2019 Security Register, our comprehensive annual directory of manufacturers and distributors serving the locksmith industry. This valuable reference guide will be mailed to subscribers at the end of the year.

By this time, all of our manufacturer and distributor readers should have returned their questionnaires to update their listings. If you still need to make changes, please email [email protected] as soon as possible and we will help you. Locksmith and trade association listings are also included. Please email [email protected] if your group would like to be listed. (Listings are free as a service to our readers).

Information is updated year-round and is also available online at www.locksmithledger.com/directory.
