The story of innovation for Sargent and Greenleaf (S&G) began in 1857 when James Sargent, an inventive young sales representative for Yale and Greenleaf Lock Manufacturers, designed a lock that far surpassed any security advice available at that time. Sargent’s Magnetic Bank Lock was the first lock that allowed for a combination to be easily reset with a special key – immediately upgrading the level of security available to every bank, safe and vault in the world.

In 1865, after the United States Treasury had adopted the razor’s-edge security solution shortly after its invention, Sargent partnered with Halbert Greenleaf, and the team of Sargent and Greenleaf built upon Sargent’s reputations as an innovator of specialized high-security locking systems.

160 years later, S&G is a leader in the high-security sector, specializing in high-quality mechanical and electronic locks for safes, vaults and highly sensitive SCIF environments. American-owned, S&G has the industry's largest selection of mechanical combination locks, electronic safe locks, vault locks, time locks and specialty safe-locking solutions. S&G products are built to withstand the test of time, providing premiere locking solutions to protect that which is valued most in places of government, finance, and commercial industries around the world.

Continuous Innovation

Since its beginnings S&G has prided itself on being a technological innovator in the field of locks and security. Just as a physical key was an innovative product for bank vaults in the mid-1800s, S&G’s Digital Platform is the modern equivalent – technology that makes specialized high-security locking systems more secure, easier to operate, simpler to program, and more flexible and modular in design. The advances of the Digital Platform have been applied across an entire platform of S&G’s products, providing enhanced security, a consistent user experience, and advanced data management.

Following the release in 2016 of the first product on the Digital Platform – the Audit Lock 2.0 – S&G has added to the platform’s offerings with innovative products like A-Series™ with Display for the specialized securing of ATMs. Among the A-Series with Display’s many technological advances, the Digital Platform locking system significantly improves the efficiency and ease of use of ATM locks, providing a display for visual communication, and an integrated USB port for transferring data accumulated on the system’s 1000 event audit trail. Data can then be uploaded to a PC, providing financial institutions a more dynamic tool for planning and strategizing the security of their ATMs.
