D&D Keeping Canines & Warriors Safe at Camp K9
Located in Ponte Vedra, Florida, the newly opened K9s for Warriors expansive 17,000-square-foot headquarters and nine-acre Camp K9 offers veterans suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disability (PTSD) and shelter rescued canines to train together to assist with readapting to life back home. The $8 million Camp K9 facility was completed entirely with donations from the community. Hundreds of sub-contractors donated their time, labor, and materials.
The year-round training camp required quality fencing that would provide safety and security for its high traffic environment of daily training exercises for the veterans and their canines. Poly Vinyl Creations, a D&D partner, stepped up to the plate to support their community and donated fencing for 5 dog parks with 20 safety gates, more than 25 outdoor dog kennel gates, and a pool safety fence with 3 safety gates for their bone-shaped doggy pool. With over 50 gates covering the K9s for Warriors and Camp K9 property, D&D’s gate hardware would make or break this installation.
“D&D’s gate hardware provides superior quality and reliable high functioning performance. Our products allow the canines and veterans to place their focus on training at camp to help them return to civilian life with dignity and independence,” said Jackie Barrera, Marketing Director, D&D Technologies.
Camp K9 has MagnaLatch® ALERT safety gate latch and TruClose® hinges installed on their pool safety gate to provide peace-of-mind to the staff and house guests at the facility. The MagnaLatch® ALERT is the ultimate safety gate latch offering a visual bright flashing LED alarm and a loud audible alarm when the gate is left unlatched. Paired with our TruClose® self-closing hinge, the two products ensure that the gate not only closes behind someone but ensures that the gate is latched closed.
“MagnaLatch® ALERT and TruClose® are the #1 world’s safety gate kit, so it’s a great addition for this facility. With a high number of individuals coming through the facility every day, adding this layer of protection around the pool gives staff peace-of-mind that their pool gate is secure,” Barrera explained.
Another D&D product outfitted on gates at Camp K9 is the LokkLatch® DELUXE, a key-lockable privacy and security gate latch. This latch is installed on areas where locked security is highly important; the outdoor dog kennels and the large dog training parks. LokkLatch® DELUXE operates and locks from both sides of the gate and has a 6-pin rekeyable lock that allows the staff to update keys as often as they like and even allows them to make unique key sets for different areas of the facility.
Although K9s for Warriors has been in operation since 2011, the new Camp K9 facility recently celebrated their one year anniversary this past July. They have rescued over 306 dogs, graduated 241 veterans with PTSD, and have over 21 staff members and 500 volunteers. This non-profit has come a long way since their original operation in a single family home.
To provide the veterans the same level of security at home when they return after graduating with their canine, D&D Technologies has donated safety gate hardware kits to the upcoming graduating class. Seven veterans will each receive a MagnaLatch® ALERT and TruClose® hinge set to take home with them so they may continue to practice with their canines in safety.
