Mortise Locks & Combinating
I am seeking schematics and parts lists for mortise locks, in particular older locks such as the Lockwood Model B5100 as well as older Corbin Russwin locks. I also seek institutional locksmith information concerning various combinating methods.
Stephen Ulrich
Can you clarify what is meant by combinating methods? If you are asking about master key systems, then there are two primary systems: hold and vary or rotating constant. Hold and vary is used for locks in North America while rotating constant is popular in Europe. If you have a specific question about masterkeying, then send it to my attention and I will try to answer the question.
About 40 years ago stronger air quality standards made cast iron lock cases too expensive to make and they were discontinued in favor of stamped steel cases. A fellow named Laurie Simon has a web address of [email protected]. You might contact him regarding old lock parts lists but any parts for those locks are probably no longer available. -- Gale Johnson
Brinks Safe Key
I need replacement keys for a Brinks# 5059 small safe. I do not have any receipt. How can I get this done?
Bill Powers
Brinks safes are imported from Asia. These safes are branded with the “Brinks” nameplate but that does not mean that they are all made by the same Asian manufacturer. Therefore it is impossible to tell you what key blank is required unless the lock can be physically inspected.
My suggestion would be to bring your safe to a reputable locksmith in your area. If that locksmith has any difficulty in identifying the lock, then have him contact Locksmith Ledger. -- Gale Johnson
Code Series Info?
I can't find the information on the key code EC808 in Codes Express. It is a cam lock for a truck tool box. The lock can't be taken apart to decode it.
McDonald Locksmith Service
Locksmith Ledger has just collected the “EC” code series and it will be installed in CodesExpress shortly.
The cuts for EC808 are 14141. The key blank is Y13 /O1122R. If you have an HPC 1200CM machine, use Hudson card CX32. -- Gale Johnson
