Kaba Mas X-09 End-of-Life Process Continues

Kaba Mas responded to the June 2011 update to Federal Specification FF-L-2740 (now revision B) with the development and the April 2013 approval of the X-10. Kaba Mas has provided parts and service for both the X-09 and the X-10 since that approval.

With concurrence from the GSA and the Interagency Committee on Security Equipment (IACSE), Kaba Mas is now moving forward with an “end-of-life” process for the X-09. Effective 1 October 2015, X-09 parts and repair service will no longer be available. GSA / IACSE’s involvement in this decision was based on transitioning to a lock which complies with updated federal requirements.

“Kaba Mas is committed to provide superior products, and long-term support,” says Eric Elkins, senior manager, business development - government products. “However, in this case, at the request of the government, we will discontinue replacement parts and repair support for the X-09. The intent is to replace locks, when needed, with locks that provide the highest level of resistance to today’s evolving threats.”

Training classes for high security locks currently covers both the X-09 and the X-10. Students who participate in a scheduled Kaba Mas class receive a certification for both X-09 and X-10. There is no plan to change the training class syllabus at this time.

OMNIA Expands Prodigy Line

OMNIA’s extremely well-received Prodigy line of high quality, moderately priced door hardware has been expanded to include three new ultra modern designs. Prodigy now includes 10 knob and lever designs ranging from modern to traditional.

While streamlined at first glance, these Prodigy additions feature unexpected details upon further inspection. A squared-off lever, inconspicuously curved on the reverse, is a perfect companion to a square rose that has been added to the line. The wedge-shaped lever features subtly rounded edges. Reminiscent of a puck, a circular knob is punctuated by a long shaft. Four coordinating auxiliary deadbolt designs are also available.

OMNIA, a leading manufacturer for over fifty years, crafts solid brass and stainless steel latchsets, mortise entry locksets, deadbolt locksets, narrow backset mortise locks and multipoint trim in over 90 knob and lever designs. OMNIA also offers a wide range of decorative cabinet hardware, solid brass hinges and architectural hardware.

DORMA Introduces Improved 9500 Mortise Lock Exit Device

DORMA Americas, a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium access solutions and services, has made improvements to its 9500 Mortise Exit Device. With added dependability to the mortise chassis, the 9500 device offers increased durability, ease of installation, and faster order fulfillment over the previous 9500 mortise device.

Advantages of the improved 9500 Mortise Exit Device include:

  • It requires no additional door prep for external solenoid on LFSC/LFSF models (wire raceway in door required for power wires).
  • The lock case can be easily reversed without opening the chassis case.
  • It is fully compatible with the MLR (Motorized Latch Retraction) feature, allowing the latch bolt to retract electronically and quietly.
  • It requires shorter lead times than before when ordering optional items to be added at the factory.
  • It offers the convenience of a 1 1/8” mortise cylinder.
  • It has a higher PSF rating (60 PSF) to comply with Hurricane and Florida Building Codes.
  • It fits A115.1 ANSI 86 edge prep.
  • The improved product stands to lower inventory costs due to its versatility. Fewer will need to be maintained in stock because a simple change of a cam on the back of the cylinder allows functions to switch between 03 storeroom and 08 classroom.

“We’re excited about the improvements to the 9500 Mortise Exit Device, and the benefits it will deliver to customers looking for reliability and value,” said Exit Device Product Manager for DORMA, David Karley. “The improved lock has been tested at Miami-Dade County testing facilities for the HC Florida Building Code applications.”
