Car-Opening Techniques: 2005-12 Cadillac STS

This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 2005-12 Cadillac STS. The door lock system in these vehicles is electronic. If the battery is dead or disconnected, lock or interior pushbutton operation will not enable unlocking or opening the doors.

Cautions: Failure to remove the wedges prior to raising the car-opening tool into the passenger compartment may result in the window glass breaking. When using a car-opening tool whose tip contacts the inside door control, tape the end to prevent marring. It is always a good idea to using some diluted dish soap to prevent damage to the weather stripping when inserting wedges or tools. Follow manufacturers’ instructions to remove their specific car-opening tools.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2005-12 Cadillac STS:

Use the High Tech Tools 67 Tool to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert a wedge between the glass and the weather stripping directly above the front edge of the outside door lock assembly. Insert the 67 Tool into the door cavity with the tip facing rearward. Lower the tool until the tip is underneath the latch mechanism shield. Lift the tool so the tip flips up the latch mechanism to the unlocked position and unlocks the door locking mechanism. Pull up on the outside door handle to open the door.

Use the Pro-Lok AO-07 “Astro Tool” and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the inflatable wedge 3" from the front edge of the split window divider of the rear passenger door. Inflate the wedge. Carefully insert the small, hooked end of the AO-07 tool 1" from the front edge of the split window divider with the tip facing rearward. Carefully lower the tool 10" into the door cavity. Tilt the handle approximately 45 degrees to the front of the car until contact occurs with the vertical linkage rod. Manipulate the car-opening tool to capture the linkage rod. With the AO-07 under the linkage rod, twist the tool counterclockwise to bind the rod. Raise the tool to unlock the door locking mechanism. Pull out on the outside door handle to open the door.

Use the Slide Lock AutoBuster III car-opening tool and two wedges to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the two wedges wide enough apart at the front of the front passenger door window to permit the AutoBuster III to slide between. Insert the AutoBuster III between the wedges with the tool facing rearward. Slide the tool into the door cavity until it is completely within the door cavity. Remove both wedges to relieve pressure at the interior side of glass. Rotate the tool slightly, clockwise so the loop can be raised up into the passenger compartment side of the front passenger door window glass. Carefully lift the tool until the tip is visible through the weather stripping. Manipulate the car-opening tool until the tip contacts the lock rocker. Move the rocker to the unlocked position to unlock the door locking mechanism. Pull out on the outside door handle to open the door.

Use the Steck Manufacturing BigEasy “Glo” and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge or inflatable wedge into the top corner area of the door. Once the door has been carefully wedged out, insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the 90-degree bend tip is behind the inside door handle. Carefully pull back on the inside door handle to unlock the locking mechanism and open the door.

Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1003 car-opening tool and a wedge to unlock the rear passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge as close to the rear edge of the rear passenger door window. Insert the short end of the car-opening tool into the door and work it past the vertical window track. Angle the car-opening tool in order to probe at approximately 45-degree angle for the vertical rod. When the TT-1003 tool contacts the vertical linkage rod, it will move. Trap the vertical linkage rod in the hook of the tool and carefully raise the linkage rod until the locking mechanism unlocked. Pull out on the outside door handle to open the door.

The direction to rotate the door lock plug to the unlocked position is clockwise.
