Illustrated Guide to Door Hardware
Scott J. Tobias, AHC, is currently the Vice President of Architectural Development for ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions. His new book, Illustrated Guide to Door Hardware: Design, Specification, Selection, should be a welcome addition to the reference book collection of any locksmith. According to the prelude, this book is designed as a guide and reference handbook stating:" This type of resource would benefit the construction community by providing centralized information in order to expedite, verify, and limit the errors with the desired end result of a door opening."
The Illustrated Guide is divided into ten different product groups. As example, the "Closing and Control Devices" chapter describes all known types of mechanical, electric and pneumatically operated door closers and their uses. The "Securing Devices" chapter covers slide bolts, locks, electric strikes and exit devices. Finish charts, product dimensions, pictures and diagrams plus suggested code standards are useful whether a customer is asking for a hardware retrofit or you are studying for a DHI hardware exam.
