Future of Locksmithing, Part 2

Editor:

Not By Choice. I wish that there were more requests for access control and that inquiries for modern auto keys resulted in requests for the service more often than not.

I’m a second generation, one-person operation started in the early 1970s by my father. He, and now I, try to do it all.

Being in a low population density region of the country, if I didn’t say yes to every type of request, I wouldn’t have much to do.

Thank you for your outstanding representation of locksmiths everywhere. I always look forward to your commentary on topics of importance in our industry.

Gale, you're absolutely right.  I stopped automotive locksmith about 8 years ago amd became a commercial locksmith/ safetech at that time. Now I'm down to a safe tech with a little commercial locksmithing. Big boys didn't want us to know how profitable  the safe work is.

I think specialization is the only way a small guy can make it. The competition for the little stuff with hardware stores and a handyman is a no profit business
