A tribute to Gerald Connelly was included in the October 1991 issue. Mr. Connelly had been a spokesman for the locksmith industry for many years. Master Lock introduced their new Designer Series door hardware line and Schlage introduced their Mediterranean Lock Collection. A tryout key set for Saturn vehicles was presented. Medeco Security Locks offered ALOA conventioners a free Medeco lock cylinder for anyone who took four 20-minute Medeco classes. Chuck Charter, Yale Security Locks, provided the steps necessary for a door closer installation. T.C. Mickley explained how Leveron can support ADA laws. Charles Cole described the "radically new" Mas-Hamilton X-07 safe lock. Milt Wolferseder showed how to service a Yale 072 1/2 transmission-style safe lock on a Remington Rand safe cabinet. Another Ledger article featured opening instructions for a malfunctioning Gary safe. Bill Power and Sal Schillizzi received Hall of Fame awards from Locksmith Ledger. A hardware store controversy among magazines in the industry sparked a reply lively reply posthumously from Gerald Connelly. T.C. Mickley discovered a few facts about profile and oval cylinders.


Dick Zunkel looked at hardware which is available for sliding doors. Tim O’Leary showed the Arrow IC "Choice" products. What are the 'choices" today?   Jerry Levine installed a Sargent electronic lock which had an optional keypad or proximity/keypad feature. Chuck Havill, IR Security and Safety Sector, suggested possible growth opportunities for locksmiths. The WearGuard Company presented suggestions on work wear garments for locksmiths. An article by Jerry Levine showed the installation of a Locknetics cabinet lock system. Tom Gillespie installed a B52 safe lock by Mas-Hamilton. VATS was the topic of an article about keys available from Howard Keys. Tiny showed how to fit keys to a 2000 Subaru Outback. Mosler Inc. announced that it had ceased operations as of August 3, 2001, according to our Locksmithing Etc. column.


The Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) held its 55th anniversary ALOA Convention & Security Expo at the Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville last month, and attendees and exhibitors gave high marks to the Southern location. Our photos provide a brief glimpse of the show floor.

For those who didn’t make it to the show this year, the 2012 ALOA Convention & Security Expo is scheduled July 7-15 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV. Expo dates are July 12-14. A full schedule of classes will be presented before the Expo. For more information, visit
