Securitron R100 Surface Mounted Wireless Reader, HES KS100 Server Cabinet Lock, and Medeco M100 Aperio Cylinder with Prox awarded

PHOENIX, AZ, February 19, 2015 — ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions, has been awarded three GOOD DESIGN Awards from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design for Aperio Wireless Products. Taking home this esteemed honor is the Securitron R100 Surface Mounted Wireless Reader, the HES KS100 Server Cabinet Lock, and the Medeco M100 Aperio Cylinder with Prox. All three use ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio wireless technology, which enables mechanical locks to be wirelessly linked to new or existing access control systems.

The Securitron R100 offers an elegant solution to bring access control to glass, stone, granite and marble entryways. It is an adhesive mountable reader that requires no drilling and has no visible wires. The R100 transmits credentials for request to entry in real time and uses a convenient, single-card system that can be used with existing ID badges and supports either HID® or iCLASS® credentials, each supporting a range of technologies.

The HES KS100 Server Cabinet Lock extends access control to protect data center assets from intrusion and expensive downtime. In a slim design that fits perfectly on server cabinet doors, the KS100 uses a company’s existing credentials and ID badges to extend access control from the server room entrance door to individual server cabinets. It is a cost-effective and scalable tool, both for regulatory compliance and to reduce the possibility of accidental or malicious intrusion into the racks, which can cost upwards of $500,000.

The Medeco Aperio M100 eCylinder with Prox technology offers an easy retrofit solution for mechanical door hardware, adding access control to any door by simply switching out the cylinder. Local wireless communication between the M100 and an Aperio hub connects to the existing EAC system, eliminating the cost and inconvenience of bringing wiring to the door.

“Receiving multiple GOOD DESIGN Awards for our Aperio products demonstrates our commitment to high quality design,” said Adam Auer, Securitron Product Category Manager, ASSA ABLOY. “Aperio has been adopted in a broad range of markets and applications, and this recognition supports our objective - thoughtful innovation in wireless technology.”

Aperio is a global wireless platform that allows you to expand your access control footprint – quickly, easily, and affordably. Available across a broad range of locking hardware from ASSA ABLOY Group brands, Aperio provides the flexibility to address many applications throughout any facility. Aperio uses wireless communication (IEEE 802.15.4) between the lock and an Aperio hub to provide real-time communication to the access control system, simplifying installation and reducing costs.
