Updated Special-Lite® FRP Flush Door Brochure Available

Nov. 8, 2011
Highlights hurricane rating, new fire-rated doors, improved corrosion resistance and energy-saving adjustable bottom brush

Special-Lite, Inc. recently published an updated brochure highlighting key new features of their Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP) Flush Doors for commercial entrances.

As discussed in the brochure, Special-Lite enjoys a reputation for building extremely durable doors as confirmed by independent and industry testing.  Their SL-17 FRP flush door has now passed the ASTM F1642-04 blast test and Florida’s TAS/210/202/203 tests for hurricane rating.

New product line additions to the brochure include the SL-21 and SL-23 fire-rated FRP-clad doors, which have been tested in accordance with UBC 7-2, NFPA 225, and UL 10C requirements for interior applications and have passed the necessary tests to achieve Warnock Hersey listing for fire-rating applications in the United States.

Special-Lite FRP Flush Doors provide corrosion resistance that’s superior to hollow stainless or galvanized steel.  Not only do the FRP face sheets and 6063-T6 aluminum alloy stiles and rails (recently upgraded from 6065-T5) offer excellent resistance to rust on the exterior of the door, the foam core locks out water and all corrosive materials so the corrosion cannot start from inside the door.

Last but not least, the new adjustable bottom brush option has been added to the brochure.  The patent-pending SL-301 Adjustable Bottom Brush can be specified for new or existing Special-Lite® flush doors to compensate for out-of-position floors in new construction as well as normal settling of older buildings to reduce air infiltration and energy loss under the door bottom.

Based in Decatur, Mich., Special-Lite manufactures complete entrance systems consisting of flush, monumental, wood grain doors, colonial doors, panels and framing for new construction and replacement installations in educational, commercial, institutional, industrial and municipal applications.  The company was founded in 1971 and pioneered the use of fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) material for door skins in the early 1980s, and today is the largest volume producer of FRP doors in the U.S. Special-Lite’s entrance products were the first to earn GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification, including the stringent Children & Schools Standard. For more information, visit www.special-lite.com.
