North Bennet Street School Open House: Friday and Saturday

Nov. 13, 2014
Locksmithing is one of eight full-time professional training programs at North Bennet Street School

North Bennet Street School welcomed 1,836 visitors during the two days of Open House 2013 and the school anticipates a similar crowd this year. Register online and you will be entered in a lottery to win a $200 gift certificate that can be used for workshop registration.

Locksmithing is one of eight full-time professional training programs at North Bennet Street School. The hands-on, 9-month program allows students to jump-start a locksmithing career and quickly earn a return on their educational investment. Unlike online courses, you learn from a master locksmith in small classes and many students work in the field while enrolled.

The Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA), an international association of locksmithing professionals, now recognizes the clock hours students spend in the locksmith program at North Bennet Street School toward certification. If recommended by Dave Troiano, the department head, students automatically receive their Registered Locksmith certificates.

If, at the end of the program, students take and pass the Proficiency Registration Program test, administered at the school, they receive a Certified Registered Locksmith certificate. Although many states do not require locksmiths to be registered or certified, these certifications are necessary for government work and most institutional work.

Most graduates begin work in established locksmithing shops doing general work both in the shop and on the road. Projects might include: repairing locks, fitting keys, master-keying and lock installing. Some graduates become in-house locksmiths for businesses and institutions while others work in specialty fields, such as automotive lock servicing, or establish their own shops.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, November 14 - 15, 2014. Interested persons are asked to RSVP at www.nbss.edu. The school is located at 150 North St., Boston, MA 02109.

If you are unable to attend Open House and are interested in one of the eight full-time programs, attend an information session to learn more and tour the school. If you are interested in workshops and/or short courses and continuing education, view the calendar online
