New Applications for Smart Padlocks and Cabinet Locks

April 3, 2017

Many traditional applications for camlocks now can be better served with smart padlocks and keypads because the newer technology is less vulnerable to picking, and doesn’t carry the issues associated with key management.

Here are just a few applications where this new technology can make a big difference with respect to security and convenience to your customer:

  • Cupboards & drawers, (offices, pharmacies kitchens, labs, classrooms, examination rooms, gun storage)
  • Lockers (gyms, leisure centers, spas, workplaces and schools)
  • Cabinets (housing computers, networking hardware alarm and access controls)
  • Public storage rentals
  • Bicycles
  • Basically any cabinet, locker or padlock application

Codelocks KitLock

NOKE

The Noke system is comprised of Bluetooth padlocks, keyfobs and software management and control software.

The Noke Padlock has an IP66 rating and is built to withstand tough environments and weather conditions. The Noke Padlock is water-resistant, but not waterproof, meaning, it will withstand rain and snow but not submersion in water.

Noke uses Bluetooth 4.0 LE which contains the highest level of security. Bluetooth 4.0 LE uses a 128-bit AES CCM encryption algorithm to ensure transmissions are encrypted and secure. In addition to standard Bluetooth encryption, Noke employs the latest in PKI technology and uses cryptographic key exchange protocol to keep your communications with Noke secure.

The Noke Fob is a conveniently sized device and is a Bluetooth enabled key that allows users to unlock Noke locks without the use of a smart phone or Quick-Click code. A user walks up to a Noke lock, squeezes down on the shackle, and squeezes the fob while holding it near the lock. This will allow Noke to immediately unlock without the use of a phone or quick-click code.

Noke is compatible with iOS devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 LE hardware and running iOS 7.0 or later (iPhone 4S or newer, iPod Touch 5G or newer, iPad 3G or newer, iPad minis). Noke is also compatible with Android devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 hardware and running Kit Kat (4.4) version of the Android operating system (including Samsung Galaxy S4 or newer, HTC One or newer). Noke is also compatible with Windows Phone devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 LE hardware and running Windows Mobile 10 or newer.

Operating MODES

1-Step Unlock is a term used for proximity unlocking when the authorized Bluetooth device is within range. It requires that you only press the shackle of the padlock before it will automatically unlock.

2-Step Unlock requires that you first, press the shackle of the lock and second, confirm the unlock within the app on an authorized phone for the Noke Padlock to unlock.

“Touch Unlock” Touch unlock allows a user to open Noke using the fingerprint reader on his or her smartphone after pressing down on the shackle and confirming the unlock within the app. This is the most secure method of unlocking the Noke Padlock.

I programmed the padlock with little difficulty to unlock with my Samsung S5. I had my computer soon while I was doing it and I think you’re better off reviewing the website then focusing on installing and enrolling on the phone. The app worked very smoothly and I likde it.

Remote Allocation System

LockeyUSA’s Remote Allocation System (RAS) for online code management has been a serious game-changer for school locksmiths. Instead of spending days, weeks, or longer changing every locker lock combination at the end of the school year, RAS mode allows administrators to advance all codes at once. Gone are the days of carrying around a clipboard list full of combinations, stopping to change each and every combination.

Combine the time-saving RAS mode with the EC790 Electronic Locker lock that installs in less than a minute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBo_JpFN1QI) and operates more than 80,000 times with a pair of AA batteries, school locksmiths and administrators won’t ever need to go back to the lock after installation.

EC 790 features include:

  • Public, Private and Remote Allocation System user modes
  • Fits most standard metal lockers “out of the box”
  • Simple click together fit, with 2 nuts to secure
  • Designed to work with locking bar lifter
  • ADA compliant as standard
  • Key override
  • Up to 80,000 operations per pair of batteries
  • Battery condition indicator
  • Audible key press (can be turned on/off)
  • Re-lock indicator
  • 4 digit user code (can be set by user)
  • 8 digit master code
  • Technician mode

COMP-X Cabinet Locks

With the CompX Stealth Cabinet Lock, Radio frequency technology permits the Transmitter Pad to be stored anywhere, leaving no trace of visible hardware or signs of being secured. It allows multiple (individually accessible) wood cabinet doors or drawers to be locked from a single transmitter pad within a 15 ft. range. The lock is easy to install – takes fewer than 10 minutes, and it replaces existing cabinet locks.

CompX RegulatoR electronic pushbutton cabinet locks can be installed easily on new or retrofit applications. The RegulatoR is available in two versions: self-locking and manual locking. Self-locking features SlamCAM, a spring loaded latch, which allows the user simply to close the cabinet door or drawer — no need to return the knob to the locked position.

Manual locking version requires users to rotate the knob into the unlocked and locked positions. Daily / Shared Use Mode allows for revolving user code; multiple users may use the RegulatoR without having to re-program the RegulatoR each time.
