The Key Machine Encyclopedia: 2023 Update

Jan. 12, 2023
A range of new models made their debut in 2022.

Key machines are an obvious and essential locksmithing tool. Shopping for one can be an overwhelming experience, particularly when you consider that around 100 models of key machine are on the market.

The first important thing to do when you shop for a key machine is to determine ahead of time what keys you’ll cut and in what amounts. It makes no sense, for example, to consider a key machine that cuts only edge-cut keys if you’re an automotive locksmith, because most vehicles these days require a laser cutter — if they even require a key at all.

Next, you have to do your research. When Locksmith Ledger introduced its Key Machine Encyclopedia, it was with the hope that it would serve as a starting point to help with this task by listing every available model in the North American market and including some basic product information about each.

Of course, the manufacture of key machines continues. A number of new key machines came to market in 2022, and we expect more in 2023. So, a comprehensive guide that purports to cover a product has to change and update as new models are introduced and old models are discontinued.

What follows is a quick update of the changes that took place in 2022. The online version at LocksmithLedger.com will include links to the current information for each manufacturer.

Users Guide

The Locksmith Ledger Key Machine Encyclopedia is an attempt to list all key machines in production and offered for sale in North America at the time of publication (Jan. 1, 2023).

Products are listed in alphabetical order by manufacturer and then divided by the type of keys cut, either all-in-one, edge, laser or specialty. Manufacturers categorize their key machines differently and use different terms to describe their machines and their machines’ features. We have tried to standardize where possible, but always consult the appropriate manufacturer if you have specific questions, particularly with regard to specific terms of the machine warranty.

Locksmith Ledger took great pains to ensure that all information contained herein is accurate and current. If any errors or omissions are found, any updates have been made or models have been discontinued, please contact the author at [email protected].
