ASSA ABLOY is proud to announce the launch of ASSA ABLOY Academy, a consolidation of its robust training programs that enable security professionals to be more effective at their job of protecting both people and places.

2740B: The Sargent and Greenleaf 2740B lock was designed to meet Federal Specification FF-L-2740B and is approved for use in protecting our nation’s classified materials. This class will provide instruction in the installation, setup, and programming of the S&G 2740B combination lock. Technicians must successfully complete the approved training class and pass a written exam at the conclusion of the class in order to become a registered technician in the S&G database.

2890B: The Sargent and Greenleaf 2890B, built to Federal Specification FF-L-2890B, is an integrated door lock designed to meet both security and life safety demands of highly sensitive SCIF environments. Equipped with single motion egress, the S&G 2890B Locking System allows for intuitive and safe egress from inside a SCIF. In this class, you will learn about specification FF-L-2890B and its requirements, and how to install the S&G 2890B Pedestrian Door Lock. Receive installation certification for all six types of the S&G 2890B Locking System using the S&G 2740B lock.

ALOA Fundamentals of Locksmithing

ALOA Security Professionals Association is offering its six-day Fundamentals of Locksmithing training course  at its Dallas headquarters on the following dates: May 14-19, 2018; Oct. 1-6, 2018 and Dec. 3-8, 2018.

The ALOA Continuing Education (ACE) 6-day Basic Locksmithing Course provides students with basic hands-on knowledge of locks and security related hardware. Students will work with basic locksmithing tools such as dial calipers, impressioning pliers soft face mallet, lock pick set, along with other locksmith specialty tools.
Upon completion of this course, graduates will have the knowledge required to function as an apprentice locksmith who can perform the following tasks:

  • Identify and duplicate keys
  • Service and adjust key machines
  • Rekey a variety of lock cylinders
  • Make original keys for a variety of locks by code, dis-assembly and impressioning
  • Bypass and/or pick common locks
  • Troubleshoot and service common cylinder and lockset malfunctions
  • Identify common lock hardware finishes and functions
  • Be familiar with life safety codes and the ada
  • Design and key a simple master key system
  • Know combination lock operation and changing methods

At the completion of the class, students receive a tool kit containing the following items: pinning kit, pin tray, follower, tweezers, key gauge, special hollow follower and master follower, Kwikset cylinder removal tool, shim stock, round impressioning file, Ilco Key Blank Directory, PRP Resource Guide which includes the ALOA Locksmith Dictionary, reference manual and Life Safety Codes & ADA class manual.

Key Operated Safe Locks:  This class is designed to take the mystery out of key-locks commonly found on high security safes. Before you can learn to effectively drill or pick these formidable locks you have to understand them. The class will focus on the identification and operation of changeable locks, as well as give instruction on picking basic lever locks. The skills gained in this class will be extremely useful for any safe technician. It is also an excellent preparatory class for those who will be taking their CPS or CMST safe exams.
Advanced Lock Defeat: This course has been designed for those that would like an effective method of decoding pin and disc tumbler locks without having to take them apart. Methodology will be covered on many different decoding methods. Once the methods have been learned then the student can formulate a plan to use the techniques to decode most locks encountered. Students will learn to fabricate their own tools for various decoding methods using a variety of measuring instruments. Lock picking and impressioning will round out this fast paced course.- 
Low Voltage Technology and Wiring: This comprehensive course was developed to give both new and experienced field technicians a solid understanding of low voltage systems. It is the foundation class for anyone who plans on installing intrusion-detection systems; access control systems; CCTV systems; network cabling, and even home theater systems. This class (or the ability to pass all the testing material incorporated in it) is prerequisite to taking our Intrusion Detection, CCTV, or Access Control classes.

Intrusion Detection System Design and Installation: This course was designed for people who want a solid foundation in the planning and installation of modern intrusion detection systems (Burglar Alarms). It is perfect for people seeking employment with an existing alarm company, for locksmiths who want to branch out into new markets, and for security company managers who want a better understanding of what their field techs deal with on a daily basis. You MUST attend our Low Voltage class (or be able to pass all of its testing material) before taking this class.
Access Control System Design and InstallationThis course was designed for people who want a solid foundation in the planning and installation of modern Electronic Access Control systems. It is perfect for people seeking employment with a Security Integrator, for locksmiths who want to branch out into new markets, and for security company managers who want to experience what their field techs deal with on a daily basis. The Industrial Infrastructure College teaches the various types of industrial infrastructure technology solutions to consider when planning to renovate or build a new industrial facility or campus. These courses aid in the development of comprehensive systems for a variety of industrial communications environments and applications using the most recent hardware and software technologies. They cover the basic principles of IP/Ethernet networking with a focus on the manner in which the new control protocols are best deployed in the industrial environments and applications.

Each college course is labeled with a level number indicating the degree of technical information contained in the course. The Level 100 courses are considered prerequisites to be completed prior to higher-level courses. Most of the courses offered are accredited with Continuing Education Credits (CECs) from BICSI and other professional organizations that can be used to aid attendees in maintaining their professional certifications. Course descriptions list the associated CEC information for which the course is qualified.

Classes last approximately 60 minutes and contain knowledge check questions to reinforce the concepts discussed. At the end of each course, the student is required to complete a quiz with an 80 percent correct score in order to be issued a completion certificate. This certificate may be submitted by the student to request that the CECs be applied to the student’s transcript.

Paxton Access Control Workshops
