Padlocked Gate

I have seen a number of multiple padlock shared control gates, but this one has the most padlocks I have ever seen. When multiple padlocks secure a gate, removing any one padlock permits access or egress. The value is to allow multiple people, companies and/or agencies access without having one entity being responsible for keys if just one padlock provided security. Problems arise if one person adds a cheap quality padlock. Remember, security is determined by the weakest link.

Car-Opening Techniques: 2001-2014 Toyota Prius

This month we will offer car opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 2001-2014 Toyota Prius. The Prius is equipped with bicycle-style cables inside the door. Probing within the door cavities will not unlock the locking mechanism.

Important: When attacking the inside door release handle or the lock/unlock buttons, cover the tool's tip with electrical tape to prevent marring. It is also a good idea to using some diluted dish soap to prevent damage to the weather stripping.

When using a car-opening tool, it is recommended to attack the inside handle. Pulling out on the inside handle will not only unlock and open the car door, but also should override the alarm if the vehicle is equipped.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2001-2014 Toyota Prius:

Use the High Tech Tools Inside Access Tool 35 to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert a wedge between the glass and the weather stripping directly above the door lock-unlock button inside the vehicle. Insert the tool into the door cavity with the tip facing forward. Reposition the wedge to permit the car opening tool to slide into the door cavity. Lower the tool until the shaped portion is beneath the window glass. Rotate counterclockwise slightly until the tip is on the interior side of the window glass. Slowly raise the 35 tool until the tip is in the passenger compartment. Position the tip against the lock-unlock button. Rotate the tool to turn the button to the unlocked position to unlock the door locking mechanism. Carefully open the door.

Use the Pro-Lok AO-36 “MCOT-Long Tool” and an inflatable wedge to unlock the rear passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the inflatable wedge 11 inches from the front edge of the rear passenger door window glass. Inflate the wedge. Insert the AO-36 tool 11 inches from the front edge of the window glass with the tip facing forward. Lower the car opening tool 14 inches into the door cavity. Rotate the tool beneath the bottom edge of the window glass. Deflate the wedge. Lift the AO-36 gradually into the passenger compartment. Once the tip is in the passenger compartment, rotate it 45 degrees counterclockwise, positioning the tip in front of the lock-unlock button or the inside door handle.  Rotate the lock-unlock button rearward, unlocking the door locking mechanism. Open the door.

Use the Slide Lock Frameless Window Tool™ and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the inflatable wedge a few inches above the midline of the window glass along the rear edge of the front passenger door window. Insert the Frameless Window Tool between the wedge and the top rear corner of the front door frame. Slide the Frameless Window Tool into the passenger compartment, down along the glass finally reaching the inside door handle. Manipulate the tool until the tip is wrapped around the inside door handle. Carefully pull on the tool to unlock the door locking mechanism and open the door.

Use the Steck Manufacturing BigEasy “Glo” and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge or inflatable wedge into the top corner area of the door. Once the door has been carefully wedged out, insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the ninety degree bend tip is behind the inside door handle. Carefully pull back on the inside door handle to unlock the locking mechanism and open the door.

Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1015 car-opening tool and two wedges to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the first of two wedges as far forward as possible. Leave sufficient room for the car opening tool to slide between the wedges and enter the door cavity. Carefully insert the TT-1015 tool into the opening created by the wedges with the upper bend towards the rear of the vehicle. Lower the tool until the upper bend is beneath the base of the window glass. Rotate the tool clockwise slightly until the bend is on the inside of the glass. Carefully raise the TT-1015 until you can just see the bend within the weather stripping. Stop immediately and remove the wedges. Failure to remove the wedges before raising the car opening tool into the passenger compartment can result in a broken window. Carefully raise the car-opening tool until the tip is within the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool until the tip is against the inside of the door release handle. Use the car-opening tool to operate the inside door handle. When pulled back fully, open the door.

The direction to rotate the door lock plug to the unlocked position is clockwise.
