2014 ASIS Accolades Awards Presented
ASIS International recently presented its 2014 Accolades Awards winners, recognizing the security industry’s most innovative new products, services and/or solutions. The 10 winners, including a new Judge’s Choice Award winner, was featured during ASIS 2014.
“The entries this year were extremely impressive, making the task of selecting the winners a challenge,” said Accolades Co-Chair Ron Lander, CPP.

STANLEY School Grant Program Increases To $600K
In its second year, the STANLEY Security TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS Grant Program will provide the opportunity to enhance safety and security in the nation’s approximately 4,500 higher education institutions by awarding winning schools a share of a substantial grant of STANLEY Security installed products and services. Any higher education institution – both public and private, from community colleges to large-scale campus environments across the U.S. – is eligible to participate.

STANLEY Security announced the second installment of the TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS Grant Program last week at the 2014 ASIS International 60th Annual Seminar & Exhibits, the premier security industry trade show. Initially set at $500,000, STANLEY Security pledged to raise the value of the TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS grant by $50 for every visitor to the company’s booth, in lieu of giving away promotional items. By the end of the three-day convention, STANLEY had raised the value of the grant by $100,000, totaling the grant prize to $600,000 in STANLEY Security installed products and services.
“We’re thrilled by the overwhelming positive response we received thus far for the higher education installment of the TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS Grant Program,” Gordon said. “The level of support for this initiative extends well beyond security professionals and our peers within the industry; the endeavor to establish safe campus environments is one that resonates with every individual in this country. Once nominations have been finalized, students, faculty, administrators, parents, alumni, and members of the campus community can then vote for their school daily via the voting website, SMS text messaging or Twitter, starting Jan. 19 and running through Feb.12, 2015. Colleges and universities with the first and second-most votes across three tiers of campus size – under 8,000 students, between 8,000-19,999 students and over 20,000 students – will be selected as grant winners, for a total of six winners. Grant recipients will be announced on March 3, 2015.

Secura Key Offers Updated Card Ordering Guide
CHATSWORTH, CA - Secura Key announces an update to its Card Ordering Guide, which allows resellers and customers to have a reference tool for all aspects of the card ordering process. The guide includes available card types, instructions on choosing formats and various printing options for all technologies in the Secura Key Catalog.
Significant changes include the addition of Wiegand Card Ordering information, as well as changes to the Custom Printing Procedures.

Drowning is preventable, but annual statistics indicate that action must be taken to combat the staggering number of drowning and near-drowning accidents that occur in the United States. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that each year there are nearly 400 pool and spa drownings involving children younger than 15-years old. The numbers are unacceptable, but simple, proactive steps can prevent drowning and near-drowning accidents before they happen. Step 6: Teach Children to Swim. Children of all ages should learn to swim, and water safety skills are vital.

Kaba Electronic Locks Meet Hurricane Standards
Two of Kaba’s electronic lock models have been certified by an approved independent test lab as compliant to the Florida Building Code (FBC) standards for installation in hurricane regions. Both the E-Plex 2000 and PowerPlex 2000 Series Mortise locks with deadbolt and auto-deadbolt are certified for use in the highest level High Velocity Hurricane Zone areas, including Miami-Dade and Broward counties of Florida.
