SafeLogic Xtreme: Two Safe Locks In One

For everyday use, six digits are entered on the electronic digital keypad to unlock the safe. But in the event of an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack or other electrical/battery malfunction, the lock can be opened by normal mechanical dialing of a combination.

Jeremy Brookes, director of sales at SecuRam, described the SecuRam product lineup during a recent meeting with Locksmith Ledger. SecuRam safe lock product lines include SafeLogic, designed for the residential, light commercial and gun safe markets, Prologic, designed for commercial applications and ScanLogic, safe locks which use fingerprint scans as an unlocking credential.  SecuRam lock units use the industry-accepted bolt hole pattern allowing quick retrofitting of existing antiquated safe lock products. Lock units are available for either SwingBolt, DeadBolt, SpringBolt or StrikeBolt operation.

SecuRam SafeLogic products are of special interest to locksmiths.  Three models of SafeLogic are available which vary by optional keypad features.  All three SafeLogic models use a similar keypad to enter code combination information. The Basic model has a stainless steel housing. A Toplit model has a housing of polycarbonate.  Lights illuminate the LED screen in the dark. The interchangeable color ring is available in either chrome or brass.  A Backlit model is made of stainless steel. An internal light source in the Backlit model illuminates keypad numbers in the dark.

A code combination consists of six digits.  An audio signal sounds as each digit of the combination is pressed.  After entering a correct code combination, a double signal will sound. If the safe handle is not turned to unlock the safe within three seconds, the SecuRam SafeLogic lock will relock.  A five-minute lockOut period will begin after four consecutive invalid code combinations are tried.  A 9-volt alkaline battery provides power. The battery is located in the outer keypad unit. In case of battery failure, lift upward on the keypad housing. The housing will detach far enough from the safe door surface to easily access and replace the battery.

A new Securam product called SafeLogic Xtreme has recently been introduced. This interesting lock is actually two locks in one.  SecuRam calls it an electromechanical safe lock. For everyday use, six digits are entered on the electronic digital keypad to unlock the safe. 

Electronic safe locks may be susceptible to an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack.  A battery may fail without an available spare. If for any reason the electronic operation should not function, a SafeLogic Xtreme lock can be opened by normal mechanical dialing of a combination.  A cover located at the top of the dial can be lifted up.  Once lifted, the keypad can be rotated and used as a mechanical SpinDial.  Normal revolutions of 4-3-2-1 will operate a three-wheel pack within the SafeLogic Xtreme lock unit.  Dialing numbers are also revealed when the cover has been lifted.

After a simple pairing and authentication process, a SafeLogic Xtreme Bluetooth model allows you to control and audit the lock right from your Smartphone.  Android and iOS apps are available. Just enter your 6-digit code when you are in range of the SafeLogic Xtreme and turn the safe handle to unlock the safe.
