Steck Super Easy Wedge

According to Steck, "Many of today’s new vehicles may require additional pressure and surface area to spread the force along the door when performing unlocks.  New vehicles are being built with sturdier window frames that may require additional pressure when unlocking the vehicle.  Larger vehicles have larger doors, which also may require additional pressure when performing unlocks."

To resolve this situation, Steck has introduced the "Made in the U.S.A." inflatable, Super Easy Wedge, part number 32923, which is a larger version of the Easy Wedge. This new 7 x 9” wedge is made of ballistic nylon, which prevents slippage in extreme weather. The Super Easy Wedge has a taffeta print on the exterior with a 30 gauge polypropylene insert for stiffness. The bulb has been increased by 50 percent, allowing fewer compressions to fill the wedge. The Super Easy Wedge is designed to be used with the Steck BigEasy Lockout kits.

Car-Opening Techniques: 1999-2014 Audi TT

This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 1999-2014 Audi TT. The Audi TT is equipped with bicycle style cables within the door.

Warning: The Audi TT uses multi-layer weather stripping at the base of the window. Use a diluted mixture of dishwashing liquid and water to enable the car-opening tools to slide into the opening.

Be very careful when you contact the lock buttons or the inside release handle. Too much force can result in scratching or marring the button or handle. Placing electrical tape over the tip of the tool can help protect the plastic controls.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 1999-2014 Audi TT:

Use the High Tech Long Reach Tool #78SG and a glass wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Carefully wedge out the front passenger door at the top rear corner. Insert the #78SG car-opening tool into the passenger until the tip can hook the door release handle. Carefully pull on the handle to unlock the locking mechanism.

Use the Pro-Lok AO-35 “MCOT-Wide Tool” tool and an inflatable wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the inflatable wedge 14 inches from the front edge of the passenger door window. Inflate the wedge according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Insert the AO-35 tool five inches from the front edge of the window glass with the tip facing forwards. Lower the tool into the door cavity until the tip is beneath the bottom of the window glass. Rotate the tool until the tip is on the passenger compartment side of the window glass. Deflate and remove the wedge. Carefully raise the tool until the tool enters the passenger compartment. Rotate and manipulate the tool until the tip is behind the inside pull handle. Pull out on the handle to unlock the locking mechanism.

Use the Slide Lock Frameless Window Tool™ with the inside door handle extension and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Lubricate the area. Begin by inserting the wedge at the top rear corner of the window frame. Carefully insert the Frameless Window Tool with the inside door handle extension into the opening below the wedge. Slide the tool into the passenger compartment to avoid scratching the surrounding area when sliding the coupler through. Carefully manipulate the tool to having the tip behind the inside door handle. Carefully pull on the tool. The first pull is to unlock the locking mechanism. The second pull opens the passenger door.

Use the Steck Manufacturing  BigEasy “Glo”  and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the plastic wedge or inflatable wedge into the top of the door. Insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the 90-degree bend tip against the lock release button or pull out on the inside handle to open the door.

Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1015 car-opening tool and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge near the inside door handle. Carefully insert the TT-1015 car-opening tool into the door cavity with the tool pointing forward.

Carefully lower the tool until the bend in the tool is beneath the bottom of the window glass. Rotate the tool counterclockwise until the bend is on the passenger compartment side of the window glass. Carefully raise the tool until the bend is just visible. Immediately remove the wedge. Continue to raise the tool until the tip is in the passenger compartment. Carefully lever the tool until the top is between the inside handle and the handle trim. Lever the handle out as far as possible. Allow the handle to almost return to the rest position. This action unlocks the door locking mechanism. Without letting the handle move into position, lever the handle out as far as possible and lift up on the outside door handle to open the door.

The direction to rotate the driver's door lock plug to the unlocked position is clockwise.
