Ilco 057 HS Key Machine

The Ilco 057 HS is an automotive high security (sidewinder) manual  key duplicator. The 057 HS can be used to duplicate both internal and external, two and four track sidewinder keys used by Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen, etc.

The 057 HS key duplicating machine is lever operated. The left lever controls the vertical position of the cutter. The cutter position is set each time, having the tracer point just contacting the key. Once in position, the locking nut is tightened. The right lever moves the vise jaw assembly in order to remove the blade material. To duplicate a key, the right hand traverse lever controls movement of the cutter and tracer against the key blank and the key.

A common problem for high security duplicating machines is cutting into the vise jaw. The 057 HS has replaceable jaw surfaces for the cutter side of the vise jaw assembly. Four Allen Screws secure the two vise jaw surfaces.

To duplicate some non-standard keys, adapters may be required.

New Winnebago Lock & Key

Winnebago has introduced a new key and lock mechanism for specific 2014 models of their motor homes. This new lock mechanism will be used on the ignition and door locks. The lock mechanism is an internal sidewinder (similar to a Lexus).

The code series is 6000+. The ignition and door locks have six tumblers, three on each side. The cuts are 1, 3, 5 and 2, 4, 6 on each side. There are side notches at the top and the bottom of the blade.

To identify a key's cuts, lay the key on a flat surface, pointing the tip away from you. The cuts on the left side are the odd numbers and the cut on the right side are the even numbers. This code series has four depths of cut.

The key code is not stamped anywhere on the lock. The door plug is swedged onto the cam, making it impractical to remove for decoding.

At the present time, no key blanks are available from either the manufacturer or the aftermarket. Replacement keys are available when ordered using the motor home's Vehicle Identification Number.

Office Furniture Pre-Cut Key

Pre-cut keys are offered for inexpensive office furniture. This type of furniture lock provides protection against honest people. A well known  company that uses pre-cut keys is Sauder Furniture. The manufacturer will often use their 001 pre-cut key with the 001 coined (not stamped into the head) for drawer and cabinet locks. The aftermarket key blank number is Y11 for Ilco EZ, Jet Hardware and Barnes. The JMA key blank number is YA-11D. The cuts are 1,3,1,2,4. The 1200CM card number is C55. When you come across a piece of furniture that is locked, this key will work the majority of the time.

Car-Opening Techniques: 1999-2014 Volvo S80 Sedan

This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 1999-2014 Volvo S80 sedan. The S80 has vertical locking buttons on the front and rear doors.

Important: Be very careful when you contact the lock buttons or the inside release handle. Too much force can result in scratching or marring the button or handle. Placing electrical tape over the tip of the tool can help protect the plastic controls.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 1999-2014 Volvo S80 sedan:

Use the High Tech Long Reach Tool #78SG and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Carefully wedge out the front passenger door at the top just forward of the corner. Insert the #78SG tool into the passenger until the tip can hook the door release handle. Carefully pull on the handle to unlock the locking mechanism.

Use the Pro-Lok AO-45 “Loop-D-Loop” tool, AO-33 Separator and an inflatable wedge to unlock the rear passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the inflatable wedge 8 inches from the rear edge of the rear passenger door window and inflate the wedge according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Insert the AO-33 tool 6 inches from the rear edge of the window glass with the tip facing rearwards. Lower the tool and rotate until it is on the passenger compartment side of the window glass. Insert the long end of the AO-45 tool into the door 3 inches from the rear edge of the window with the tip of the tool facing rearward. Lower the tool into the door cavity until the tip is beneath the bottom of the window glass. Rotate the tool until the tip is on the passenger compartment side of the window glass. Deflate and remove the wedge. Carefully raise the tool until the tip enters the passenger compartment through the opening created by the AO-33 tool. Rotate and manipulate the tool until the loop is over the locking button. Twist the tool to bind. Carefully raise the tool to lift the locking button to the unlocked position, unlocking the locking mechanism.

Use the Slide Lock Frameless Window Tool™ and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge above the bottom half of the window frame and inflate according to manufacturer’s specification. Lubricate the area. Insert the Frameless Window Tool into the opening above the wedge. Slide the tool into the passenger compartment carefully to avoid scratching the surrounding area when sliding the coupler through the opening. Manipulate the tool to having the tip behind the inside door handle. Carefully pull on the tool to unlock the locking mechanism and open the front passenger door.

Use the Steck Manufacturing  igEasy “Glo” and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge or inflatable wedge into the top corner of the door. Once the door has been wedged out, insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the 90-degree bend tip behind the inside door handle. Pull on the tool to unlock the door locking mechanism. Pull on the handle a second time to open the door.

Use the Tech-Train Productions Home Made Tool (H.M.T.) #5 to unlock the rear passenger door locking mechanism. Lubricate the opening with diluted dish liquid. Carefully insert the H.M.T.#5 into the opening between the rear quarter panel and the right rear passenger door. Use a somewhat stiff piece of plastic if the weather stripping is resistive. The tool is folded and designed to capture the locking button. Once captured, bind the tool against the locking button and carefully raise the tool, unlocking the door locking mechanism.

The direction to rotate the 1999-2014 Volvo S80 sedan driver's door lock plug to the unlocked position is clockwise.
