ACSI Motor Drive Latch Retraction Kit
Architectural Control Systems Inc. has introduced UL Listed motor drive electric latch retraction kits for use on fire rated and panic exit devices. These 24VDC kits provide simultaneous latch retraction and dogging by retracting the pushpad. The low power requirements can be configured for momentary or maintained operation. They offer on-board diagnostic LED lights. These kits can be field or factory installed.
At this time, kits are available for Corbin Russwin, DORMA, Hager, K2, PDQ, Von Duprin and Yale exit devices. As an example, the ACSI 1550K-MDV Latch Retraction Kit is designed for Von Duprin 33A/35A and 98/99 series exit devices.

STRATTEC introduced several new products at the recent ALOA Convention, including coded "Z" keyway (93 groove) ignition and door locks, the 2014 Comprehensive Catalog and 2014 Key & Fob Identification Chart. There are four "Z" keyway coded door lock sets and ignition locks. The 84-page catalog contains a transponder guide that covers programming instructions by make, model and year, vehicle locks and keys for 2014 General Motors, Chrysler, Ford and other vehicles, pinning kits, accessories and Bolt products.

EPLock has introduced its Fingerprint Padlock. The convenience padlock has a fingerprint reader built into the aluminum alloy body. The padlock can be operated by a combination or fingerprint. According to EPLock, the Fingerprint Padlock can be programmed with up to 150 fingerprints. There are three sizes of shackles. Power is provided by four AAA batteries.

2014 Kia Cadenza
The 2014 Kia Cadenza is equipped with pushbutton start. The small bow, emergency override key uses the new U0001-U2500 code series. The sidewinder type key is shaped like a Lexus blank, but the size is .118" by .278". The Kia key blank part number is 81996 3T000.
The code series has 4 cuts on the left and 3 cuts on the right. The spacing is the same as the 2013-on Hyundai Equus that uses the new I0001-I2608 (eye) code series. Each of these code series has different depths. The 2013-on Hyundai Equus has a different emergency key blank.
Many lock manufacturers have restricted keys. Restricted keys do not have patent protection, but through a "gentleman's agreement," key blank manufacturers do not produce a key blank that will enter the lock manufacturer's keyway.
Re-engineered PowerPlex 2000
Kaba PowerPlex 2000 Series Pushbutton Access Control Locks have been re-engineered using Kaba's proprietary PowerStar™ technology to minimize the need to pump the outside lever in order to generate power. The new standalone PowerPlex 2000 utilizes super capacitor technology, enabling a lock to store power for up to 14 weeks with no activity. This added capability for most applications maintains sufficient power, being charged by just operating the outside lever in order to gain access.
The KABA PowerPlex 2000 Pushbutton Electronic Locks offer up to five authority levels: Master, Manager, Access User, Service and Maintenance levels. Maintenance Level is for uploading and downloading information; no access is granted. Up to 100 four- to eight-digit codes can be programmed. The audit trail retains the most recent 1,000 lock events including the use of the mechanical key override. Additional software fee is required to view audit events.

Blue Dog: The Key Company
Consider Blue Dog as a secondary source to your regular local locksmith distributor for key blanks. Freightliner Cascadia trucks use the "FT" code series. This code series has been in use since 2003. There are seven cuts and five depths, using the Chrysler "L" code series spaces and depths (plus the number five depth). The lock has seven tumblers and the tumblers are marked with the depths.
The key blank designed for Freightliner is the STRATTEC 597893; a metal head is the Ilco 1588. Aftermarket key blank manufacturers’ versions of the Y157 key blank can be substituted.
The 1200CM card for the "L" series is CX60. Pencil in an equally spaced over fifth depth (0.239").
Lost Gumball Key
The Ford Gumball Machine uses a wedge-shaped key that is cut using a sidewinder key machine. The key can be filed, using an Abloy key blank, which is a slow process, even with knowing the spaces and depths.
As an alternative, a cut key can be purchased from A1 Gumballs. There are 3 different keys, F50, F50C and F50E, but most locks are set to F50.

Removing Ignition: Saturn Ion
The 2003-07 Saturn Ion is equipped with a steering column-mounted ignition lock. The vehicle's locks use the "Z" keyway G0001-G3631 code series. The Ion is equipped with the General Motors PassLock security system. The STRATTEC ignition lock service package part number is 7006014.
The key blank part numbers are:

To remove the ignition lock, the cylinder must be turned to the RUN position.
There are two poke holes along the upper portion of the ignition switch body where the ignition lock is located. The ignition lock has two spring loaded retainers that must be pressed in the correct order to remove. Use an awl, a small hex wrench or punch.
The first retainer to depress is through the poke hole closest to the ignition key. While depressed, the ignition lock can be slid out a little. This positions the second retainer within the second poke hole.
Depress the second retainer through the poke hole closest to the steering column. While depressed, the ignition lock can be slid out a little.
To remove the ignition lock, depress the retainer in the poke hole closest to the ignition key. Note: Sometimes this retainer is difficult to depress, Try moving the lock ever so slightly or rotate the key to be certain the cylinder is in the RUN position.
Car-Opening Techniques: Chrysler Sebring & Dodge Avenger
This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 2007-10 Chrysler Sebring Sedan and 2008-2013 Dodge Avenger. These four-door sedans are equipped with vertical linkage rods on the front doors. The linkage rod is not protected along the lower portion. The rear doors are equipped with horizontal linkage rods.
The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2007-10 Chrysler Sebring Sedan and 2008-2013 Dodge Avenger:
Use the High Tech Tools 66 CheckmarkTool to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert a strip saver and wedge into the rear passenger door cavity just forward of the rear door outside handle assembly. Lower the 66 Tool into the door cavity with the tip facing forward. Carefully lower the car-opening tool and turn the tool 90 degrees so the squiggle portion is beneath the horizontal linkage rod. Lift he tool to capture the linkage rod. Turn the car-opening tool to bind the linkage rod and manipulate the linkage rod towards the rear of the vehicle to unlock the door locking mechanism.
Use the Pro-Lok A0-42-LA "Long Arm Tool," a wedge starter and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge starter at the top corner of the front passenger door. Insert the inflatable wedge into the opening created. Remove the wedge starter. Inflate the wedge. Insert the A0-42-SL "Tool Sleeve" at the top edge of the doorframe. Carefully insert the AO-42-LA through the sleeve into the passenger compartment. Reach the tool 41" into the passenger compartment to the electric lock-unlock button that is located on the front passenger door trim panel handle assembly. Position the tip of the tool over the button and depress to unlock the door locking mechanism.
Use the Slide Lock Inverted Z-Tool and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge just above the front edge of the outside door handle assembly. Insert the Inverted Z-Tool one inch to the left of the vertical lock button with the tip facing forward. Lower the tool carefully into the door cavity approximately six to eight inches. Carefully rotate the tool counterclockwise until it contacts the vertical linkage rod. Manipulate the tool until the tip is wrapped around the vertical linkage rod. Bind and lift the car-opening tool to raise the vertical linkage rod unlocking the door locking mechanism.
Use the Steck Manufacturing BigEasy “Glo” and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the plastic wedge or inflatable wedge into the top of the door. Insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the 90-degree bend tip against the lock release button or pull out on the inside handle to open the door.
Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1017 car-opening tool and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge near the forward edge of the outside door handle assembly. Carefully insert the TT-1017 car-opening tool into the door cavity with the tip pointing forward. Carefully lower the tool about five inches into the door cavity. Rotate the tool counterclockwise until it contacts the vertical linkage rod. With the shaft of the car-opening tool against the weather stripping, rotate the tool until the vertical locking button moves slightly indicating contact. Once contacted, pull the tool towards the front of the vehicle to bind. Carefully raise the TT-1017 to unlock the door locking mechanism.
The direction to rotate the driver's door lock plug to the unlocked position is counterclockwise.
