Ilco Decorative Key Blanks

Kaba Ilco Corp. has introduced three lines of residential key blanks: College Key Blanks, PVC Molded Head Key Blanks and the United States Armed Forces Key Blanks.

Fifty-three college and university logos are available on a KW or SC1 bladed PVC key blank. The KW blade will accommodate the KW1 and KW10 applications.

Choices for the style of the key blank include a round headed key blank with the school logo, and a basketball, football, baseball or hockey style. For example, a football PVC key blank will have a helmet shape in the school colors and the insignia.

PVC Molded Head Key Blanks offer a design choice that is the general shape of a butterfly, baseball glove or hamburger, or a round shape design that can include four Aces, Green Frog or skull. These PVC key blanks are available with KW or SC1 blades.

According to Ilco, these three-dimensional design key blanks come with an attached key chain. All PVC key blanks are ordered five per keyway per design combination.

United States Armed Forces Key Blanks have an oversized bow to display the military branch of service or the waving American Flag. On the thumb side of the key blanks is the name Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines or Navy. On the finger side, there is a saying. For example, Air Force has “AIM HIGH…FLY, Fight, WIN” with stars and a jet in the background.

Armed Forces key blanks are ordered five per keyway and design, fifty per box or as an assortment of five each of the six designs in both keyways. The assortment includes an acrylic merchandiser.

Car-Opening Techniques: 2001-up Audi A6/S6

This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 2001-up Audi A6/S6. These four-door sedans are equipped with bicycle style cables.

These vehicles are equipped with multi-layer weather stripping. Before inserting a tool, use diluted liquid dish soap to lubricate the weather stripping and help prevent breaking the window. Dish soap will dissipate with water, where a lubricant can stain the door trim panel or the surrounding area.

Use the following methods to unlock the 2001-up Audi A6/S6 sedans:

Use the High Tech Tools 78SG Tool to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert a one hand Jack system and an inflatable wedge towards the middle of the top of the front passenger doorframe. Carefully wedge out the doorframe to provide access for the car-opening tool. Insert the 78SG through the opening created along the upper rear vertical edge of the doorframe. Slide the tool into the passenger compartment and hook the front passenger door handle or engage the lock release button to unlock the door locking mechanism.

Use the Pro-Lok A0-24 "MCOT-Handle Opener Tool" and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge 16 inches from the front edge of the front passenger door window glass. Inflate the wedge. Insert the A0-33 MCOT- Separator Tool seven inches from the front edge of the window with the tip facing rearwards. Insert the AO-24 car-opening tool 13 inches from the front edge of the window glass with the operating end of the tool facing forward. Lower both tools 13 inches into the door cavity and rotate them beneath the bottom edge of the window glass. Deflate the wedge. Lift the AO-33 tool gradually into the passenger compartment, creating a gap for the car-opening tool. Lift the AO-24 tool into the passenger compartment and rotate counterclockwise to position the tip of the tool behind the pull handle. Rotate pull handle rearward to unlock the door locking mechanism.

Use the Slide Lock Frameless Window Tool™ and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge just above the midline of the rear edge of the front passenger door window frame. Insert the Frameless Window Tool between the inflatable wedge and the top rear corner of the front door frame. Manipulate the tool until the tip is wrapped around the inside door handle. Carefully pull on the tool as far out as possible to open the door.

Use Steck Manufacturing’s BigEasy “Glo”  and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the plastic wedge or inflatable wedge into the top of the door. Insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the 90-degree bend tip against the lock release button or pull out on the inside handle to open the door.

Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1015 car-opening tool and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge near the inside door handle. Carefully insert the TT-1015 tool into the door cavity with the tip pointing forward. Carefully lower the tool until the bend in the tool is beneath the bottom of the window glass. Rotate the tool counterclockwise until the bend is on the passenger compartment side of the window glass. Carefully raise the tool until the bend is just visible. Immediately remove the wedge. Continue to raise the tool until the tip is in the passenger compartment. Carefully lever the tool until the top is between the inside handle and the handle trim. Lever the handle out as far as possible. Allow the handle to almost return to the rest position. Just before, lever the handle out as far as possible and lift up on the outside door handle to open the door.

The direction to rotate the driver's door lock plug to the unlocked position is counterclockwise.
