Car-Opening Techniques: 2004+ Cadillac SRX
This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 2004-up Cadillac SRX Crossover. These vehicles are equipped with vertical linkage rods and locking buttons.
These vehicles are equipped with multi-layer weather stripping. Before inserting a tool, use diluted liquid dish soap to lubricate the weather stripping and help prevent breaking the window. Dish soap will dissipate with water, where a lubricant can stain the surrounding area.
The following opening methods can be used to unlock 2004-up Cadillac SRX Crossover:
Use the High Tech Tools 'S' Tool 47 and a wedge to unlock the front passenger’s door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge forward of the outside door handle assembly. Position the car-opening tool with the shaft in line with the front of the outside door handle assembly. Insert the car-opening tool into the door cavity with the tip pointing to the rear of the vehicle. Lower the tool until the tip is beneath the bottom of the outside door handle assembly. Twist the 47 Tool clockwise until the linkage rod is within the hooked tip. Bind the linkage rod and carefully raise the tool to unlock the door locking mechanism.
Use the Pro-Lok A0-10 "Original Slim Jim", an inspection light and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the inflatable wedge 8 inches from the rear edge of the front passenger door window glass. Inflate the wedge. Insert the inspection light into the door cavity 6 inches from the rear edge of the window glass and identify the vertical linkage rod. Insert the A0-10 tool 4 inches from the rear edge of the window glass. Lower the tool 8 inches into the door cavity. Slide the tool forwards one inch to contact the vertical linkage rod. The locking button will move when the rod is contacted. Engage the car-opening tool onto the linkage rod and carefully lift up to unlock the door locking mechanism.
Use the Slide Lock Frameless Tool to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Lubricate the weather stripping. Begin by inserting the thin plastic wedge to help establish an opening for the inflatable wedge. Insert the inflatable wedge at the top rear corner of the front passenger door. Make sure that 50 percent of the inflatable wedge is within the opening before inflating. Inflate the air wedge, making sure there is enough room for the Frameless Window Tool.
