Company Identification

A number of locksmiths have been providing their service personnel with company identification that they wear when making service calls. The identification usually has the word locksmith in large letters. Additional information can be the state and the business license office. Most have a photo and name of the employee. The badge/identification can be placed in a holder or laminated and attached to a lanyard.

In today’s world, visible identification does help to create trust and security for your customers.

Car-Opening Techniques: 2007-up Volkswagen EOS

This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 2007-up Volkswagen EOS. These vehicles use electronic locking mechanisms. There is no mechanical lock linkage in the doors.

Entry into these vehicles require gaining access to the inside release handle or operating the power door lock controls.

These vehicles are equipped with multi-layer weather stripping. Before inserting a tool, use diluted liquid dish soap to lubricate the weather stripping. Dish soap will dissipate with water, while a lubricant can stain the door trim panel or the surrounding area.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2007-up Volkswagen EOS:

Use the High Tech Tools 78SG Tool and a glass wedge to unlock the driver’s door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge at the top rear of the door opening. Insert the car-opening tool into the passenger compartment through the opening edge of the door with the tip pointing downward. Slide the tool until the tip resting on the lock button and pull back to unlock the vehicle. Place the tip of the tool within the opening for the inside release handle and pull back once to unlock the door. Open the driver’s door by pulling on the outside door handle.

Use the Slide Lock Frameless Window Tool™ car-opening tool, a wedge and two wedges to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the thin wedge along the opening side of the doorframe toward the top of the window to relieve gasket pressure. Insert the second thick wedge directly above the first wedge. Remove the first wedge.

Note: when inserting a wedge, slide it into the opening with the sloping side facing the interior of the vehicle. This should help to protect the door gasket.

Make sure there is enough room for the Frameless Window Tool.

Slide the Frameless Window Tool Blue Tip into the passenger compartment above the thick wedge. Slide the tool in carefully to avoid the coupler damaging the car’s finish or damaging the weather stripping. Manipulate the tool over the inside door handle. Pull back on the tool to move the handle into the unlocked position. Open the passenger door by pulling on the outside door handle.
