Key Code Programs

When working with any key code program to obtain the depths of cuts, you must know details about the lock. Specifically, you need the exact code, making sure the letters and numbers are correct. A customer called a locksmith with a PM5000 key code. The actual code was TM500.

What makes life easier is if you have access to the lock itself. The reason is that more than one manufacturer's code series may be offered.

  • What is the lock type? Utility, vehicle, etc.
  • Do you know the lock manufacturer or the key blank number?
  • Does the lock operate using a single or double-sided key?
  • How many tumblers are in the lock?

If you do not know these answers, it is more difficult to determine which code, particularly when more than one code choice is offered. Remember, not every lock will be in the key code program.

Finally, there seem to be a number of new locks with new key code series. Some lock manufacturers are not releasing the key code series, so it will take some time to obtain enough examples to be helpful.

For example, Bauer has introduced a new ML code series having five tumblers.

Spacing is 102"   197"   291"   386"   480".

Depths are 1.) 283"  2.) 256"  3.) 228".

FYI

All electrified but hinges are considered non-load bearing and should only be installed as the middle hinge on a three-hinge door.

Originating Ford Keys

When originating a Ford 10-cut key using a 1200CM, the blade bottoms out in the vise jaw. This is because the height of the blade from the edge to the start of the offset is .144". The height of jaw "A" is .137". This leaves .007" above the top of the vise jaw.

However, when originating a Ford 8-cut key, the height of the blade from the edge to the start of the offset is .116". The height of jaw "A" is .137". This means that .021" of the blade offset is beneath the top of the vise jaw when the key blank bottoms out.

The 1200CM has the Ford 8-cut key blank sitting on top of the vise jaw. To compensate for this Card CX101 cuts are higher by .021" for the raised position.

If you make a card using only the depths of cuts, you must add .021" to each depth to have the cut at the proper depths of cuts.

HIT-66-210 and -248 Templates

Major Manufacturing has introduced templates for installing the Alarm Lock DL3500 (part number HIT-66-210) and the Hager 3800 series (part number HIT-66-248) mortise locks. Car-Opening Techniques: 2002-07  Buick Rendezvous

This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 2002-07 Buick Rendezvous. The Buick Rendezvous is equipped with horizontal linkage rods on the front and rear doors. Depending upon the car-opening tool manufacturer, methods of entry include the front and rear passenger doors.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2002-07 Buick Rendezvous:

Use the High Tech Tools Horizontal Linkage Tool #23 to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Separate the glass from the weather strip by positioning a wedge forward of the outside door handle assembly. Insert a strip saver forward of the wedge and insert the Horizontal Linkage Tool with the working end pointing towards the front. Lower the tool and rotate the handle away from the vehicle. Continue to lower the tool until it contacts the upper horizontal linkage rod. Bind the horizontal linkage rod and slide the Horizontal Linkage Tool #23 forward to unlock the locking mechanism. Pull the outside handle to open the door.

Use the Pro-Lok AO-35 “MCOT-Wide Tool” car-opening tool and an inflatable wedge to unlock the rear passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge 15 inches from the front edge of the rear passenger door glass. Inflate the wedge. Insert the AO-35 tool into the passenger compartment 12 inches from the front edge of the glass with the tip facing forward. Lower the tool into the door cavity in order to be beneath the bottom of the window glass. Deflate and remove the wedge. Rotate the AO-35 in order to slide the tool into the passenger compartment. Carefully lift the gradually working the tip of the tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to in front of the inside lock-unlock button. Use the tip of the tool to unlock the locking mechanism. Pull the outside handle to open the door. Carefully remove the tool according to manufacturers instructions.

Use the Slide Lock AutoBuster III™ car-opening tool and two wedges to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the two wedges to accommodate the car-opening tool in the center of the window opening. Carefully insert the AutoBuster III with the tip pointing rearward. Lower the tool until the loop is beneath the weather stripping. Remove the two wedges. Rotate the car-opening tool until loop is on the passenger compartment side of the window. Slowly maneuver the tool until the tip is within the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tip of the tool until it contacts the manual lock-unlock button. Use the tip of the tool to unlock the locking mechanism. Pull on the outside door handle and open the door. Carefully remove the tool according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1008 car-opening tool to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Carefully insert the long end of the TT-1008 car-opening tool into the extreme rear of the window opening of the rear passenger door cavity with the tip facing rearward. Lower the tool until the tip is several inches below the outside door handle. Manipulate the tool until you contact the rear window track. Angle the TT-1008 car-opening tool and slide it until the tip contacts the rear edge of the door. Carefully pull up on the tool until contacting the horizontal linkage rod closest to the door skin. Pull up on the tool to unlock the locking mechanism. Pull on the outside door handle and open the door.

The direction to rotate front passenger’s door lock plug to the unlocked position is clockwise.
