Installing a Lock Device

Sometime you just cannot get the measurement perfect when installing a lock device such as a power door operator onto a hollow metal of aluminum doorjamb. If the lock device has an aluminum back plate, here is a possible solution. Sometimes one or two holes that do not exactly line up after a couple of screws have been installed. Take a correct size tap mounted into a drill motor. Slide the tap into the partial opening, and slowly thread the opening. The tap will remove some of the aluminum back plate and some of the doorjamb material providing a threaded opening that will accommodate the mounting screw.

Car-Opening Techniques: 2000-08 Jaguar S-Type

This month we will offer recommended car-opening techniques for the 2000-08 Jaguar S-Type. The 2000 S-Type is equipped with bicycle style cable linkage on the front and rear doors. The front and rear doors are equipped with lock-unlock rocker buttons.

Warning: Remove wedges prior to bringing the car-opening tool into the passenger compartment. If not, the pressure may result in a broken window. Keep the car-opening tool forward of the outside door handle to avoid problems removing.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2000-08 Jaguar S-Type.

Use the High Tech Tools Inside Access Tool 35 and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge directly above the lock-unlock rocker button. Insert the #35 car-opening tool into the door cavity with the tip facing forward. Lower the tool until the arch is beneath the bottom of the window glass. Rotate the tool until the arch on the passenger compartment side of the window. Carefully raise the tool, stopping when the arch is just visible. Remove the wedge. Raise the tool until the tip is in the passenger compartment. More the tool until the tip is next to the door lock button. Move the tool towards the rear to unlock the locking mechanism. Follow manufacturers' instructions to remove the car-opening tool.

Use the Pro-Lok AO-32 “MCOT-Wide Extra Long Tool” and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge five inches from the rear edge of the passenger door glass. Inflate the wedge. Insert the AO-32 car-opening tool into the front passenger door at twelve inches from the rear edge of the glass with the tip facing forward. Lower the tool into the door cavity 21" until the arc is beneath the bottom of the window. Rotate until the tools' arc is on the passenger compartment side. Deflate the wedge. Carefully work the tool into the passenger compartment until the tip is visible. Tilt the handle of the tool seven inches rearward and push the tip forward to position it in front of the lock unlock button. Rotate the lock-unlock button rearward to unlock the door locking mechanism. Pull the outside handle to open the door. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for warnings and removal of the tool.

Use the Slide Lock Frameless Tool and an air wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. When using the Frameless Tool, use the Inside Door Handle Extension for this opening. Insert the inflatable wedge at the top rear corner of the front passenger door to relieve gasket pressure. After the gap is created, use a wet plastic wedge to help entry through the complicated weather stripping. Slide the Frameless Window Tool into the passenger compartment. Slide the tool in carefully to avoid the coupler damaging the car’s finish. Manipulate the tool over the inside door handle. Pull back on the handle twice to unlock the door locking mechanism and open the door.

Use the Steck Manufacturing BigEasy “Glo” and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by first inserting the wedge or inflatable wedge into the top corner of the door. Once the door has been wedged out, insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the ninety degree bend tip behind the inside door handle. Carefully pull on the inside door handle to unlock the locking mechanism. With the handle in the release position, pull on the outside door handle and open the door.

Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1015 car-opening tool and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting two wedges eight inches apart near the inside door handle assembly. Carefully insert the TT-1015 tool into the opening between the two wedges with the tip facing forward. Lower the tool until the bend is beneath the bottom of the window glass. Rotate the tool slightly and raise the tool until you can just see the bend within the weather stripping. Stop and remove the wedges. Raise the tool until the tip is within the passenger compartment. Position the tip of the tool against the inner edge of the handle. Lever the handle outward to unlock the door locking mechanism. Pull on the outside door handle to open the door. Follow manufacturers' instructions to remove the tool.

The direction to rotate 2000-08 driver’s door lock plug to the unlocked position is counterclockwise.
