Major Mfg. HIT-66-281

Major Manufacturing has introduced thee Schlage CO Series mortise lock template, the HIT-66-281. This multi-part aluminum anodized template has hardened drill bushings and notated information adjacent to the bushings to insure proper door preparation. Larger bushings will accept holesaws. The HIT-66-281 is designed for installation on wood and hollow metal doors. This template requires the HIT-66 Clamp System.

Portable Power Supply

When working with 24VDC access control, sometimes you need easy access to instant power to test the operation of a component. Here is an inexpensive way to get that power.

I was recently visiting Command Access and was shown this battery system for 24VDC applications. Three 9volt batteries were wired in series, creating approximately 27VDC. Your actual voltage and amperage will vary depending upon the batteries.

When connecting batteries in series, the voltage doubles for the second battery and triples for the third. Thus, three 9volt batteries will produce three nines or around 27VDC.

Unlike regular batteries, 9volt batteries have specialized connectors that snap together. For this application, two 9volt batteries are placed side to side with the negative side of one battery adjacent to the positive of the other battery. Because of the dimensions, a third battery can attach to the positive connector of one battery and the negative connector of the second battery. Leaving an exposed positive and negative connector to which leads are attached. The example setup has an additional momentary switch.

This way the power runs from negative to positive to negative to positive to negative to positive.

The average capacity of an alkaline 9volt battery is approximately 500mAh.

Check each battery before connecting.

Do not use new and used batteries as the capacities will be different and the result will probably be one battery discharging faster.

Do not use different chemistry batteries (alkaline, NiMH, lithium) when connecting in series.

Spindle Chart 

Progressive Hardware Co. Inc., has just created its new Spindle Cross Reference Chart. This 11” by 17” chart has photographs of more than 50 different spindles. The photos are used to help determine the exact spindle for the application. Manufacturer, type or application separates the spindles. The manufacturers include Lockwood, Sargent, Russwin, Yale, Marks, Norwalk, National and Arrow. Each spindle has a part number and description including type (straight, swivel or sectional), number of threads per inch or unthreaded, dimensions (square, center and length), number and if threaded holes and if there are removable centers or pin stops. Many of these spindles have been manufactured because the lock company is either no longer in business or has discontinued their manufacture.
