A1 Tools For The Institutional/Commercial Locksmith

Feb. 15, 2004

A1 Security Manufacturing Corporation manufactures a variety of tools for the institutional/commercial locksmith. These include key origination machines, installation equipment, lock picks, and servicing tools.

The A1 specialty key origination machines are the Mean Green Machines, the Herty Gerty Tubular and the PAK-A-Punch. The Mean Green Machine, a manual punch machine, is available in four configurations for the Figure "8" interchangeable core (IC) keys. The four configurations are the Systems A2, A3, A4, and Arrow Flexcore. Accessory vises are available for KeyMark keys. The Herty Gerty Tubular Key Machine is designed to originate standard, offset, and pin-within-a-pin tubular keys. The manually operated Herty Gerty Machine can cut any spacing from 0 to 360 degrees in large .400" diameter or small .375" diameter tubular key blanks. The PAK-A-Punch hand-held punch machines are available for Figure "8" IC Schlage/Primus and Kwikset.

In addition to key origination equipment, A1 produces service tools for Figure "8" ICs. The CapSaver Press is a dedicated two-operation machine. The first operation is to cut caps for the core's pin chambers from a CapSaver Strip. Once cut, the caps are fit into each of the core's pin chambers, sealing all chambers at once. The brass CapSaver Strips are available in boxes of 250. Each CapSaver strip caps four cores. For economical operation, the Capping Press Plus machine is designed to cap and dump the contents of Figure “8” interchangeable cores.

A1 produces hand-held service tools for interchangeable core including blocks, combinating tray, stamping fixture, key gauge, and ejector pins. A1 has four IC servicing blocks: the Decoding Block, Multi-Use Capping Block, a Dumping Block, and Duo Block. The Decoding Block positions the core for dumping, while keeping the content of each chamber separated and in order. The double-sided Multi-Use Capping Block is designed to cap standard "Best"-style cores, plus "Falcon"-style cores with spring covers. The Dumping Block is for clearing the tumblers out of a core quickly. The Duo Block is for capping .140" and .150" spacing standard and high security Figure "8"-style cores.

The foam and PVC Combinating Tray holds up to 20 cores upright and up to 100 keys, as well as several tools. The Stamping Fixture keeps keys and cores in place while stamping. Cores can be face stamped or side stamped. The Stamping Fixture is manufactured of Delrin. The A1 Key Gauge is designed to decode the A2, A3, and A4 system keys. A Single Ejector Pin and a Multi-Punch Ejector Pin are available. The Multi-Punch Ejector Pin is a four-pronged punch.

A1 also offers installation tools for door locks and cabinet locks, as well as a magnet installation tool. The multi-manufacturer M-100 Mortise Lock and Crosshole Installation Kit produces the lock pocket and the face pocket. The M-100 is designed to accommodate door thickness of up to 2-1/2" and backsets of 2-3/8", 2-1/2" and 2-3/4". Accessory sideplates facilitate drilling the crossholes and mounting holes for specific manufacturers. The sideplates are manufactured of hard anodized aircraft alloy and are available for nine mortise lock manufacturers: Arrow, Marks, Baldwin, Schlage, Simplex, Corbin/Russwin, Sargent, Best and Tesa. The Kelly Klamp provides support when installing a magnet onto the header by keeping the magnet in place against the header.

The Bulls Eye installation jig is designed for preparing a door for the cylindrical/tubular locks. The Bulls Eye Jig uses conventional hole saws for cutting the 1-1/2" or 2-1/8" diameter cross bore. There is an automatic backset adjustment for 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" applications. Two Bulls Eye tools can be connected with optional straps for simplified installations of interconnected locks. The straps can be set for three- to six-inch center-to-center installations.

The Cabinet Lock Installation Jig is designed for cutting the cross bore opening to accommodate the installation of 3/4", 1-1/8" and 1-1/4" diameter cam locks. This jig is manufactured of aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and steel bushings. To help ensure accuracy, the Cabinet Lock Installation Jig has a built-in level.

A1 produces tubular and cylindrical lock picks, broken key extractors and plug spinners. In addition, A1 hand tools include retainer ring pliers, mortise cylinder removal tool, tweezers, multi-wrench, Security Multi-Driver, and hammer. The Security Multi-Driver is a 16-bit screwdriver that has a patented rotating end cap. The double-sided bits include security Torx, spanner, hex, Phillips and straight slot. The bits are manufactured of S2 hardened steel.
