Arrow Lock has a long history of manufacturing quality locks for both residential and commercial applications. This reporter fondly remembers the countless cases of Arrow tubular deadbolts and cylindrical locks which I have sold and installed during my locksmithing career. One testament to Arrow quality can be found each time you try to shim a lock cylinder open. Exacting tolerances between cylinder housing and plug are so close that it is often impossible to fit a shim into the Arrow cylinder.

To my way of thinking, the Arrow Lock name has always carried a connotation of quality products at a sensible cost. This same thinking extends to their new HE Series, Designer Entrance Handleset. This unit provides customers with a way to easily upgrade the look and security of residential exterior doors.

Designer Entrance Handlesets are made to retrofit into most existing mortise cutouts. First, the latch unit can be installed using a standard 2 1/8” crossbore.

Second, the latch is adjustable for 2 3/8” or 2 3/4” backsets. A hub system is used in the latch unit. Hubs are held in an oval slot and can be quickly slid from shorter to longer backsets. Hubs will operate in either direction for left hand or right hand operation without making any mechanical changes to the hardware. Only one small additional hole must be drilled through the door to accept the bottom handle retainer screw.

The thumbpiece unit contains a square swivel spindle to operate the latch hubs. Spindle length is designed to operate with 1-3/8” to 1-3/4” door thicknesses, again without mechanical changes. The inner knob assembly operates the same swivel spindle.

The Arrow Designer Entrance Handleset operates solely as a latch unit. Door security is provided by an auxiliary E Series single cylinder security deadbolt which is included as part of the set. The deadbolt has a full one-inch bolt throw and contains a hardened steel pin inside the bolt itself to deter sawing attacks.

The deadbolt included with our Arrow mount for this article was installed 5-3/4” center-to-center above the latch unit. The deadbolt unit is not connected to the thumbpiece latch unit, so center-to-center dimensions are left to owner’s discretion.

Arrow handlesets are constructed of forged brass and available in polished brass (US3) or satin chrome (US26D) finishes. Polished brass units are furnished with a lifetime finish.
