A Major Aid For Door Preparation

Hammers and screwdrivers are necessary tools for locksmiths.

There are six drill points for preparing the installation of the Yale eBOSS E5400LN Series onto a wood door. The top hole is for the thru bolt which secures the controller board assembly to the outside keypad. The next down hole is for the wire run from the outside keypad. Then, there are the two thru bolt holes for the cylindrical lock portion. To ensure a smooth installation, two openings are drilled into the centerline edges of the 2-1/8” cross bore to accommodate the cylindrical lock’s anchor lugs.

Step 7. Use a 3/8” diameter bit to drill the top hole from each side of the drill guide for the assembly thru bolt.

Step 8. Use a 1/4” diameter bit to drill the next hole down from each side of the drill guide for the wiring. The actual size for this opening is one inch diameter. Using a 1/4” diameter opening accommodates a reversed pilot bit of the 1-inch hole saw.

Step 9. Drill the two 5/16” diameter from each side of the drill guide for the cylindrical lock thru bolts.

Step 10. Drill two 5/32” diameter openings into the exterior side of the door to accommodate the anchor lugs.

Step 11. Remove the HIT-132 Drill Guide from the door.

Step 12. Use a 1- inch diameter hole saw with a reversed pilot bit to enlarge the 1/4” diameter hole to accommodate the wiring.

The door has been prepped for the eBOSS to be installed. The next series of steps is to install the Yale eBOSS E5400LN Series onto the mount.

Step 13. Install the latch unit.

Step 14. Install the lock body into the door making sure the frame and the retractor slide over the latch case and the bolt tail. Make sure the wire slides through the cross bore opening.

Step 15. Install the ground strip onto the interior side of the door to the right of the 1-inch diameter hole and the top thru bolt hole.

Step 16. Slide the inside trim onto the interior side of the door, making sure the wire from the lock body passes thru the hole in the rose plate.

Step 17. Slide the wiring harness from the keypad assembly through the 1-inch diameter hole and through the opening in the controller board assembly. Secure the keypad assembly and the controller board assembly using the thru bolt.

Step 18. Make the electrical connections for the motor wires and the keypad wiring harness.

Step 19. Dry fit the battery escutcheon prior to installing the screw at the top of the controller board assembly. If the battery escutcheon properly mounts, remove and install the screw.

Follow the instruction for the battery installation and programming of the eBOSS.
