Schlage Introduces AD-Series Electronic Locks

Sept. 1, 2009
The new AD-Series locks are designed on an open architecture platform, able to be integrated into most existing access control systems.

The Schlage AD-Series integrates the electrified lock, reader, door position switch and request-to-exit sensor into one device. AD-Series locks are available as a cylindrical lock, mortise lock, mortise deadbolt-equipped lock and as matching trim for exit devices.

AD-Series locks are based on existing Schlage lock technology. The cylindrical version is handed; however, handing is field reversible. The mortise deadbolt lock provides an additional layer of security, the deadbolt. Exit trim is compatible with rim, surface, concealed vertical rod and mortise style exit devices including Von Duprin 98/99 and Falcon 25.

The AD-Series locks are built using a plug-in modular electronic platform. This design enables having interchangeable modules. A lock can be ordered for a specific application or ordered separately with modules to be configured at a job site. These modules can then be removed and different modules installed, reconfiguring the lock(s) in order to migrate to new credential technologies, networking options and functions without having to replace the entire lock.

AD-Series configurations can include:

• Offline, hardwired or wireless networking options

• Keypad, magnetic stripe, smart card, proximity or multi-technology (proximity and smart card) readers

• Choice of one, two or three credentials

• Classroom/Storeroom, Office, Privacy, Apartment lock functions

Two versions of the networked locks are offered - hardwired (AD-300) and wireless (AD-400) locks. Both locks, when used as part of an access control system, provide central networked control. The hardwired and wireless locks can be integrated into the same system.

Hardwired AD-Series locks are used with software to provide real-time monitoring, audit trail, centralized lock-down and instant rights management. Centralized lock-down permits all of the locks to be locked electronically at the same time providing protection against unauthorized individuals.

Wireless AD-Series locks have very similar capabilities as a hardwired system without having to run wires. Note: The wireless communication protocols do not interfere with other wireless networks.

Important: Schlage has a patent-pending feature for the AD-Series wireless locks that enables an efficient emergency lockdown (within ten seconds) while still optimizing battery life (up to 2 years with normal usage).

AD-Series locks are available in two offline configurations. The AD-200 operates like a traditional offline lock. It contains the user lists, scheduling and audit trail AD-200 locks are available with all of the credential reader options - one, two or three credentials including keypad, magnetic stripe, smart card, proximity and multi-technology. The AD-200 locks provide up to a 5,000 event audit trail with most software. Programming can be completed using software and a handheld programmer or manually at the lock. Schlage offers different levels of Security Management Software (SMS) for new installations of AD-200 locks.

The other option, the AD-250, is part of a solution where the user rights are stored on a magnetic stripe credential rather than the lock. AD-250 locks have an identity and day/date and time capability. When the credential is presented, the lock determines if the credential is valid for the day/date and time. If the day/date and time are valid, the lock provides access. If not, access is not granted. An AD-250 lock can provide up to 10,000-event audit trail. AD-250 devices are available with magnetic stripe only or magnetic stripe and keypad.

Both offline locks can be upgraded to a network-capable lock if the application needs change.

Four different types of credentials are available for Schlage AD-Series locks: keypad, magnetic stripe, proximity and smart card. A reader is available with multi-technology, smart card and proximity. Single credential readers can control access with one type of credential or when combined with a keypad, provide a higher level of security by requiring multiple forms of authentication. Multi-technology readers can have up to three credentials required for access.

The keypad type of reader requires a User Code or PIN. The length and conditions of the PIN is determined by the software. The 12-button keypad modules are available as an individual reader or as an addition to other reader types to provide additional security.

The Magnetic Stripe Card reader module is field configurable to read complete tracks 1, 2 or 3. It is a n insertion-style reader whose read head can be cleaned without having to remove the lock from the door. The magnetic stripe card reader module is available with a keypad.

The proximity reader module is 125 kHz. The reader does not require direct contact. Proximity Reader compatibility includes, but is not limited to Schlage, XceedID and HID. Proximity technology is available as a single credential or part of dual (keypad) credential reader.

The Smart Card reader module is contact-less, operating on 13.56 MHz. Smart cards exchange information with readers through a process known as mutual authentication. Smart Card Reader compatibility includes Schlage, XceedID , MIFARE, HID and is capable of being FIPS201 compliant. Smart Card technology is available as a single credential or part of dual (keypad) credential reader.

Schlage also has multi-technology readers that combine proximity and smart card technologies in a single reader. The multi-technology reader module is also available with a keypad.

Schlage AD-Series locks are available in nine finishes including antimicrobial satin chrome (626), and four popular Schlage lever styles. These locks are designed for a door range 1-3/4” to 2-3/4” thick.
