Olympus FC10 Lock: Hon F24/F28 File Cabinets

INSTALLATION
Once the lock has been serviced and assembled, it is ready to be installed into the file cabinet.
The five-wafer Hon file cabinet lock code series is 101E-225E. The actual key code stamped into the face of the subject file cabinet is 136E, containing cuts X1255. To originate keys for this Hon file cabinet lock, use the HPC 1200CM code card CX32, the Ilco Universal code machine card 1069/CX32 or the ITL number 224.
To remove the Hon lock from the file cabinet, turn the lock to the unlocked position or remove the cylinder from the lock by releasing the retaining wafer at the rear of the keyway. Open the top drawer. Lift the track and slide out the drawer and the track together. Once the drawer has been removed, there is easier access to the lock.
The file cabinet gang bar is connected to the lock’s cam by a metal connecting link. The cam has a hole along the tip into which the link attaches. The tab portion of the link slides into the hole in the gang bar. Detach the connecting link to the cam first. Then slide the link out of the hole in the lock’s cam.
The Hon lock is secured to the front of the file cabinet using a spring clip. Use a small flat screwdriver to lift up the clip in order to remove it. Pull the clip out using a small pair of locking pliers or needle nose pliers.
The FC10 lock cannot be installed into the file cabinet with the cam mechanism attached. The cam mechanism must be attached after the lock has been inserted and secured. Three components make up the cam: inner cam stop, cam and outer cam shifter. These components can be installed as either key retaining or non-key retaining. The Hon lock for this file cabinet was non-key retaining.
To install, slide the lock into the cutout with the keyway point upwards. Place the inner spacer ring onto the rear of the lock. Attach the nut-retaining washer. Thread the brass nut onto the lock and tighten.
The cam assembly is installed by first sliding the inner cam stop onto the rear of the housing by sliding the brass pin into the hole. The inner cam stop is installed in one direction only.
Slide the cam onto the rear of the cylinder with the word “OUT” facing the rear of the lock.
For this article, I installed outer cam shifter with the cam pin in the non-key retained position. The screw was mounted to secure the components in place. I tested the operation of the lock.
I installed the connecting link into the hole in the cam. The tab portion of the connecting link slides into the hole in the gang bar. The tab is bent up slightly to prevent the link from becoming disengaged. Test the operation of the locking mechanism. When the file cabinet is in the locked position, the cam and gang bar are in the up position. Down is the unlocked position.
Important: Do not use the original connecting link with the FC10 lock.
