CAMARO TOOL

For the 2010 model year, General Motors has introduced their version of the flip (switch blade) key. The vehicles equipped with this keyed remote are the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and Equinox, GMC Terrain and Buick LaCrosse. The key blade is attached to the remote using a roll pin that is not easy to remove. STRATTEC has introduced the GM Flip/Pin Fixture, part number 7017699, a punch and a non-metallic holding fixture for the remote. There is a slot in the fixture to position the partially open blade in order to have access to the roll pin. The fixture is designed to protect the remote from damage as the roll pin is being removed.

AD SMARTCARD TECHNOLOGY

The Advanced Diagnostics SmartCard System is a service option that eliminates the need for Internet access to obtain security codes for Toyota, Honda and Jaguar vehicles. Advanced Diagnostics has introduced this option to increase the level of security and to help prevent technology piracy.

The SmartCard System is preprogrammed to the Advanced Diagnostics programming device. When the device is connected to the vehicle and the SmartCard has been activated, the security codes can be determined without Internet access. This is an advantage, as not all areas have Internet access, and even if there is Internet access it is not normally available in underground or above ground parking structures.

The SmartCard System is designed for only the Tcode Pro and the MVP Pro.

FYI

It appears that Kia is having a problem with the key codes on their invoices again. The key codes on the invoices do not agree with the locks’ key codes. Most of the problems are a wrong prefix letter. For example, the 2010 Kia Rio has a code series of K0001-K2500. Some invoices have the letter “V” instead of “K”. The V0001-V1200 series of codes was used on the 2009 model Rio. Always check the Vehicle Identification Number for the model year to make sure that a code series is correct. When in doubt, post the question on the Locksmith Ledger forum. Whether it is a 1937 Parkard or a 2010 Kia Rio, we either have the correct code information or know who does.

SHACKLE-EQUIPPED GROUND ANCHORS

Shackle-equipped ground anchors provide a convenient locking point to attach a chain or cable type lock in order to secure an object such as a bicycle, toolbox, etc. Some contain a flip-up heavy gauge steel shackle with body covering into which the shackle is not an obstruction when not in use. Shackle-equipped ground anchors are designed to be bolted to fixed objects including the ground (cement) or walls, and moveable objects including a truck bed or a trailer.

An example of the shackle equipped ground anchor is the Kryptonite Stronghold Anchor, an above ground model that is 7.5” in diameter. Kryptonite is a division of Ingersoll Rand.

CAR-OPENING TECHNIQUES: 2005-10 Dodge Dakota

This month we will offer recommended car-opening techniques for the 2005-10 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. This vehicle is equipped with vertical locking rods. The lower portion of the linkage rod is not protected. These methods are designed to operate the front passenger door locks.

This vehicle is equipped with tight weather stripping. Care must be taken when inserting, manipulating and removing car-opening tools. Improper procedures can damage or break the window glass.

The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2005-10 Dodge Dakota pickup truck.

Use the High Tech Tools ‘S’ Tool #47 and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the #47 car-opening tool into the front passenger compartment with the tip pointing towards the rear of the vehicle. Slide the tool towards the rear edge of the door cavity with the tool on the inside of the vertical rod. Once past the vertical rod, turn the tool until it contacts the vertical rod. The button will move slightly when the linkage rod is contacted. Continue to slowly slide the tool towards the front of the vehicle. The hooked tip will capture the vertical rod. Continue to pull the tool forward and lift up to unlock the door lock mechanism.

Use the HPC CO-39 opening tool, a wedge and an inspection light to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge at approximately the middle of the weather stripping. Insert the inspection light into the door cavity directly above the out side door handle. Identify the vertical linkage rod. Carefully slide the CO-39 car-opening tool into the door cavity. Position the tip of the tool against the lower portion of the bend in the vertical linkage rod. The button will move slightly when the linkage rod is contacted. When the rod is captured, bind the linkage rod and lift up to unlock the door lock mechanism.

Use the Pro-Lok AO-38 car-opening tool, an inspection light and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the inflatable wedge six inches from the rear edge of the window. Inflate the wedge according to manufacturer’s instructions. Insert the inspection light and identify the vertical linkage rod. Insert the small hooked end of the AO-38 car opening tool into the door cavity at five inches from the rear edge of the window glass. Lower the tool about ten inches into the door cavity. Rotate the tool counter clockwise about three-quarters of a turn. Lift the tool one inch to contact the vertical linkage rod. The button will move slightly when the linkage rod is contacted. Capture the vertical rod and lift up to unlock the door lock mechanism.

Use the Slide Lock Z-Tool™ and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge forward of the vertical lock button. Slide the large end of the Z-Tool into the passenger compartment between the locking button and the rear edge of the window glass. Carefully lower the tool about five to six inches into the door cavity. Rotate the tool counterclockwise about one-quarter turn until it contacts the vertical linkage rod. Position the tool beneath the bend in the linkage rod. Lift the tool to contact the linkage rod. The button will move slightly when the linkage rod has been contacted. When the rod is contacted, lift up to unlock the door lock mechanism.

Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1017 car-opening tool and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge at the forward edge of the passenger door outside handle. If desired, an inspection light can be used to see the vertical linkage. Insert the TT-1017 tool into the opening with the hooked tip on the outboard side of the linkage rod. When lowering the tool, do not rotate it. Once the tool has been lowered beneath the bottom of the window, approximately down five inches, rotate the tool clockwise to capture the vertical linkage rod in the tip. The button will move slightly when the linkage rod is contacted. When the rod is captured, pull the tool forward and lift up to unlock the door lock mechanism.

The direction to rotate the 2005-10 Dodge Dakota driver’s door lock plug to the unlocked position is counterclockwise. There is no keyed passenger door lock.
