With an electronic keypad lock, there’s no more need to hide keys in the planter or under a rock for those just-in-case happenings. This is just one of the advantages provided by a battery-operated residential or light commercial leverset or deadbolt lock that provides access by entering a personal code.
Emtek has introduced its brass and sandcast bronze electronic keypad leverset and deadbolt lock. The exterior of these battery operated, pushbutton locks have an 11-button illuminated keypad (1-10 and Emtek) that has a protective coating to prevent wear patterns. The translucent blue numbers are machined into the chrome plated brass or bronze keys. When it is dark, pressing the Emtek button illuminates the keypad numbers. To complete the lock, there is an operating lever or thumbturn and a horizontal mounted five pin tumbler “C” keyway lock cylinder.
The keypad leverset and deadbolt lock are available in three styles: Modern Brass, Brass and Sandcast Bronze. All of the lock bodies are manufactured from solid brass or bronze. The brass locks have the smooth even surfaces, where the sandcast bronze locks have a rustic appearance. The Sandcast Bronze keypad locks are available in Deep Burgundy (DB), Flat Black (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) and Silver Patina (SP). The Brass keypad locks are available in Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15) and PVD-Lifetime. The Modern Brass keypad locks are available in Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19) and Polished Chrome (US26).
The keypad deadbolts are equipped with a standard thumbturn on the interior and exterior. The leversets have 35 lever options. To make the choices easier, Emtek offers recommended choices for each style. The handed levers are reversible.
The keypad locks are operated using a four-digit user code and a six-digit programming code. Each lock is factory programmed with two user codes that are randomly generated. Up to 20 user codes can be programmed.
When entering a code, pressing the EMTEK button illuminates the keypad and clears any keystrokes. The programming code adds and deletes user codes. It cannot be used to gain access. The programming options include changing the programming code, adding user codes, deleting user codes, putting the lock in vacation mode (enable/disable all user codes), deleting all user codes, and turning the beeper on or off.
To enter the programming mode:
Press and hold the EMTEK button for 3 seconds. The yellow LED flashes, and then remains solid, and the number keys illuminate indicating the programming mode has been entered.
Enter the six-digit programming code. The green LED flashes and one beep sounds. The yellow LED remains solid until programming begins.
To restore factory default settings:
This erases all programmed user codes, returning to the two original user codes and the programming code.
Disconnect the battery from the lock.
Press and hold the EMTEK button.
While pressing the EMTEK button, reconnect the battery.
Continue to hold the EMTEK button pressed for three seconds.
One green LED will flash and two short beeps will sound followed by one green LED flash and two short beeps, indicating the lock has been restored to the factory default.
An anti-tamper mechanism occurs when three consecutive invalid codes are entered. The lock emits four short beeps and a flashing red EMTEK button. The lock will not accept additional key strokes for 20 seconds. The next time a valid user code is entered, the lock will beep quickly 10 times as an alert to the homeowner that a failed entry was attempted.
Installation is straightforward using standard 161 door prep. The inside trim cover must be removed to attach the two assemblies together. Be sure the tail shaft from the lock cylinder is vertical (and the bolt is retracted) when sliding the outside assembly onto the door. Slide the wiring from the exterior assembly into the opening in the inside assembly running the wiring above the deadbolt. Make sure the inside assembly hub is vertical to accommodate the tail shaft when mounting. Install the two mounting screws. Make sure the lock operates mechanically before completing the assembly. Connect the single electrical connector. Install the battery. Install the inside trim using the two provided screws.
The locks are powered by a 9Volt battery located within the inside trim plate. According to Emtek, the battery should last more than one year when being operated about 40 times a day. When the voltage in the battery is near replacement, four red LED flashes and four short beeps occur when a user code is entered. The low battery indicator will continue for a month or more until the battery voltage is no longer able to operate the lock mechanism. When the blackout battery condition occurs, the lock emanates one long red LED flash and four long beeps. At this point, the keypad stops operating and an override key must be used to gain access in order to replace the battery.
The Emtek electronic keypad locks are designed to fit 1-3/4” to 2-1/4” thick doors using standard door prep of a 2-1/8” diameter cross bore and one inch diameter edge bore opening. Keypad locks have a 2-3/8” backset latch or bolt standard with a 2-3/4” backset available on request.
Emtek electronic keypad locks have a two year warranty on the electronics as well as the mechanical and finish warranty.
